‘Rocket League’ Does Gotham With ‘Batman V Superman’ Batmobile DLC

Rocket League developer Psyonix just revealed a potentially lucrative tie-n DLC for its hit rocket-powered soccer game on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Batmobile from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is on the way via a March DLC pack along with some other goodies. Meanwhile, a new patch was released to the game Wednesday evening for two platforms, and the popular Snow Day mode made a return.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Car Pack is coming to Rocket League on March 8, 2016. The $1.99 DLC features the iconic Batmobile recreated from the film. It’s a faithful recreation with only some extra blue highlights to make the all-black vehicle stand out in the game’s arenas. The only thing it is missing is Ben Affleck climbing out of the cockpit.

The “Big Three” characters from the film will also be represented by exclusive Antenna Flags included in the Car Pack. Players will be able to choose the one that represents their favorite hero — Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman.

A new Rocket League arena set in Gotham is also coming, based on the trailer for the Batman v Superman Car Pack. It is set atop a building surrounded by the city’s skyline and a conveniently placed WB water tower.

It’s likely the Batmobile is not customizable to allow players to put silly hats on it. This would mirror the current Back to the Future Car Pack along with the recent additions of the Halo Warthog and Gears of War Armadillo exclusive to the Xbox One release.

Still, this is a genius marketing move by Psyonix and one that will likely pay huge dividends. The Back to the Future Car Pack proved to be extremely popular for the game, enough so that Psyonix started soliciting suggestions from fans on what other tie-in DLC content they’d like to see.

Meanwhile, Rocket League on the PS4 and PC received an update Wednesday evening to flesh out the Season 2 Division changes a little more. Patch 1.13 splits each of the current skill tiers into five different divisions from Division I to Division V. This is to allow players to better judge where they sit in a skill tier and let them gauge how close they are to moving up or falling down.

Additionally, the patch expands the Champion Skill Tier into three separate tiers — Champion, Super Champion, and Grand Champion. Skill ratings will be displayed for Rocket League players in these tiers to give them an even better idea of how they stack up to others.

A couple of minor bugs were fixed along with the latest Rocket League patch. An Xbox One version of the patch is planned as well. Psyonix stated on Twitter that it will have more details soon.

Not long after the patch was released, Snow Day made its return to playlists for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Rocket League. It is part of the non-competitive modes currently available in the game and not ranked play.

Snow Day made its debut in December 2015 and proved to be a popular as it replaced the oversized soccer ball with an oversized hockey puck. Psyonix previously stated it wanted to ensure the Xbox One playlists were stable before bringing the mode back.

Here are the 1.13 patch notes for the Rocket League update released last night.

  • New Skill Tiers have been added to create more differentiation for elite players, there are now a total of 15 Tiers (up from 12).
    • There are now three Champion ranks at the top Champion tier:
      • Grand Champion (Tier 15)
      • Super Champion (Tier 14)
      • Champion (Tier 13)
    • The Star tier has changed slightly to accommodate the new Champion tier:
      • Tier 12 is now called “Superstar” (was Champion)
      • Tier 11 is now called “All-Star” (was Superstar)
      • Tier 10 is now called “Shooting Star” (was All-Star)
    • Added Divisions to Competitive Skill Tiers to give players a better indication of where they fall in any given Skill Tier.
      • There are five divisions in each Skill Tier – with each representing roughly 20% of the skill range in that
        • Division V (highest),
        • Division IV
        • Division III
        • Division II
        • Division I (lowest)
      • For example: An All-Star player that is roughly halfway to the next Skill Tier would appear as “All-Star, Division III”
    • Players in the Top Tier (now “Grand Champion”) will see a numerical Skill Rating in place of a divisional indicator.
    • Players still Unranked in Competitive can now see how many Placement Matches they have remaining in each playlist
    • Forfeit Votes can no longer be triggered before a match begins

BUG FIXES

  • “Stocked” Trophy/Achievement requirements have changed from unlocking 200 items to 150 items; and it should now unlock properly
  • Fixed an issue with random map selection that was causing Mannfield and Park weather variants to be chosen too rarely. This will result in map rotation being more evenly distributed.
  • Fixed an issue that caused CPU utilization on some PCs to increase unnecessarily
