Sarah Michelle Gellar: The B***h Is Officially Back On ‘Cruel Intentions’ Sequel

Sarah Michelle Gellar has just confirmed that she will definitely be back on the NBC sequel of the popular Cruel Intentions.

Around three weeks ago, rumors were rife that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star would be appearing on the new NBC sequel to Cruel Intentions, with some reports stating that she would merely be playing a cameo role in the show. At that stage, Gellar herself didn’t really know anything about what would be happening in the show or which characters would be appearing.

At the time, Gellar said she thought the idea was great, as she has loved the story “forever.” She said that, even before she was in the film, she loved the stage show, although she said she wasn’t sure how she would fit in with a sequel.

The good news is that her appearance in Cruel Intentions will be no mere cameo, but a fully-fledged starring role in the show. Gellar officially confirmed the news via her Instagram account last night.

Posting an image of herself shortly prior to the production of the original Cruel Intentions show, Sarah Michelle Gellar can be seen posing with Roger Kumble, the director and Neal Moritz, the executive producer.

The post officially announces that Gellar will definitely be playing the role of Kathryn Merteuil once again, just as she did in the 1999 film. While no longer the teenaged temptress who lured her step brother Sebastian into falling in love, she will obviously be playing a more mature version of her previous nasty self.

So now the good news is official, and Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed up to reprise her role in the sequel, which will be written by Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin along with the original writer/director, Roger Kumble.

According to AV Club, NBC has officially confirmed the news, and press materials about Cruel Intentions have revealed that the older Kathryn Merteuil will be better at hiding her cold heart. She will be presenting herself as a charitable philanthropist who specializes in youth rehabilitation. She obviously will not be truly philanthropic and will, as always, be encouraging the youth to do totally the wrong thing.

The show will serve as a follow up to the original 1999 movie and will follow Kathryn’s quest to control Bash, the son of Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon’s role in the original) and the late Sebastian Valmont (who was originally played by Ryan Phillippe). Bash will reportedly be leaving his small Kansas town to find out more about his family’s legacy at Brighton Preparatory Academy.

Fans will no doubt enjoy seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar in a… let’s say “feisty”… role once again. We haven’t seen much of her since her starring role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, other than her appearance opposite her twin self in the drama show, Ringer. Shortly after this, Gellar appeared with the late Robin Williams in the short-lived comedy show, The Crazy Ones. She also had voice-over roles in both Robot Chicken and Star War Rebels.

As reported by Entertainment Online, it remains to be seen who else will be starring alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in the Cruel Intentions reboot. So far, there is no news on whether Reese Witherspoon, Joshua Jackson, Ryan Phillippe, or Selma Blair will be making appearances in the show. According to AV Club, Taylor John Smith will play in the role of Bash.
