WWE News: NJPW Star Kenny Omega Issues Interesting Challenge To WWE And The New Day

New Japan Pro-Wrestling seems to be linked at the hip to WWE when it comes to late 2015 and early 2016 news. We keep talking about the stars coming out of New Japan like Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles, not to mention former Bullet Club members Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, who are speculated to form a new group with former New Japan great turned NXT Champion, Finn Balor.

All of this being said, it seems that we find ourselves talking about New Japan and WWE yet again, and this time it is IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kenny Omega that has started it all. Kenny Omega basically took over AJ Styles’ role in The Bullet Club. He and The Young Bucks seemed to have formed a new group out of the Bullet Club known as The Elite.

The group has been successful thus far, as Omega just won yet another singles title with NJPW. On top of this, the trio won the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship recently.

Omega was not done there, as he seems to feel that there is more he can do that even transcends past New Japan. He spoke to Rolling Stone and had some interesting words for Xavier Woods and The New Day, telling them….

“In a perfect world, we’re not just going to play video games against each other; we’re going to try to have a match. Or at least myself and the Young Bucks are pushing for it. We really meant it when we said, ‘Our [NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship] belts don’t have any borders, and neither do we.’ If there’s a possibility of this match happening, we will do whatever it takes to make it happen. It can only benefit wrestling as a whole. I know WWE always thinks of dollars and cents and how their guys look in the public eye. I can understand that. I think that in this situation, everyone wins. We got the people talking – the match may never happen, but people are talking.

They’re talking about a better world when companies aren’t at each other’s throats, and people don’t have heat with each other. This is the kind of thing that The Elite are trying to do. Even though we have no corporate power, we’re just throwing ourselves out there, and saying we want it to happen. The fans want it to happen. And if the fans want it to happen, who’s to say that it shouldn’t? We’re going to look to create situations like this all the time, all over the place.”

When asked if he had any words for The New Day, Kenny Omega then made an interesting challenge to WWE….

“I don’t just want to challenge The New Day. I want to challenge ?WWE?. I know there are some people in the back that think that having outsiders come in and challenge your top act would just be a huge faux pas. I can understand that. But the three guys that are challenging your most entertaining three guys are the three guys that have literally taken over the Internet. When those two forces come together, it would blow up like a hydrogen bomb. Look, WWE, you claim to be the masters of sports entertainment. How about this? Entertain the people. Cater to everyone on the planet.

Myself and the Bucks, we are the Internet darlings of wrestling. We are racking up all the Match of the Year contenders. We are the ones on top of the planet right now. We are extending the olive branch for you guys to do something that has never been done before, and to help pro wrestling as a whole. The Young Bucks and I are willing to make it happen on our soil, on your soil, on your terms, it doesn’t matter. We are doing this for the people. Not your people, not our people, but all the people.”

It would be quite interesting to see a match like this go down. Kenny Omega is right when he says he and The Young Bucks seem to be internet darlings as well as match of the year contenders. They did a lot last year and have already done a lot this year in the world of pro-wrestling. Meanwhile, The New Day happens to be one of WWE’s hottest acts.

It seems that Triple H is open to such random ideas when it comes to WWE NXT, as he has brought in Jushin “Thunder” Liger in the past, and they spoke of New Japan then. There was even a rumor going around that WWE might work with NJPW in the future. Of course, it seems any sort of partnership is doubtful now, especially after WWE gutted their roster earlier this year of four top workers. One of them even happened to be a NJPW legend in Nakamura.

Kenny Omega and the Bucks are able to work in various organizations due to their contract with NJPW. However, it seems doubtful they would be able to work with WWE without NJPW permission. Getting it would be doubtful and even if they did, WWE would not want to put them up against a main roster team despite how good the idea is and how big it would be for ratings.

While Kenny Omega had a great idea, it is just doubtful WWE and NJPW could come to an agreement to allow such a match to take place. The fans may want it, but we’re talking about companies here, not just wrestling. That said, this match will never happen as long as Omega and the Bucks are under a NJPW contract. If and when they join the WWE roster, this match would be an easy money-maker for WWE.
