‘Game Of Thrones’ New Teasers: Is HBO Hinting That Jon Snow Is Alive? [Spoilers]

The Game of Thrones debate about Jon Snow (is he alive or is he dead?) has been raging for a while now and today HBO released a series of images, one of which could be a hint that he is indeed alive. There have also been some other hints recently about his fate, some of which seem contradictory. Or are they? Let’s take a look.

So what’s going on with the new Game of Thrones character images that HBO released on Twitter today? And what spoilers do they provide? Well, they build on the Game of Thrones teaser trailer that HBO released last week. It’s titled Game of Thrones Season 6: Hall of Faces Tease and it implies something pretty shocking. Check it out here.

Game of Thrones viewers were introduced to the Hall of Faces in Season 5. It lies in the deepest level of the House of Black and White. It is a huge room with stone pillars upon which the faces of those who have died in the House of Black and White are kept. There are hundreds of them. The Faceless Men, a group of assassins, use the faces as masks.

So here is the first apparent contradiction, or ominous prediction, in this Game of Thrones teaser. There are faces of both characters who were alive at the end of Season 5 and characters who were dead. And one who we aren’t sure about. So what does it mean? Are all of the characters we last saw alive going to die in Season 6? That would be quite a bloodbath, even for Game of Thrones. Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, and Cersei and Jamie Lannister, they would all have to die if that is the meaning of this teaser. Or could the fact that both living and dead be a spoiler, a hint, that, yes, Jon Snow is currently dead but will be resurrected as has been rumored?

Game of Thrones spoilers have been coming out since shortly after Season 5 wrapped up. Speculation about the fate of Jon Snow has been rampant throughout but some recent statements by fellow Game of Thrones actors seem to point to the resurrection theory.

Months ago reports and photos of Kit Harington in his full Game of Thrones costume on the Belfast set popped up on the internet. So we all thought he was alive. But, as the folks at Winter is Coming pointed out, he could have been there just to film a funeral scene. Then we had the Season 6 poster from HBO, which was a closeup of Jon Snow. Not a shot of his face the way we last saw him as he lay on the ground following a brutal attack. He was bloody and his eyes were closed, but he appeared upright, and many viewed it as a spoiler that meant he is alive.

Then came what may be the best and most helpful spoilers yet, the words of some of the other Game of Thrones actors. We had Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (who plays Jaime Lannister) telling Jimmy Kimmel that “Spoiler: at the end of Season 5, he’s dead.” Then we have a report from the Mirror that Natalie Dormer told Channel 5 News that “Jon Snow is dead right now.” When pushed to elaborate on her statement, she repeated, “right now.” Interesting.

None of us know how Game of Thrones Season 6 will play out. There is no George R.R. Martin book to serve as a spoiler. The Hall of Faces teaser and today’s Twitter posts suggest the possibility that many characters will lose their lives in the new episodes. Or you could interpret it as a suggestion that Snow is dead but will be resurrected in a plot twist that would be sure to be spectacular given the history of Game of Thrones productions. Only one thing is for sure. When Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24, we will all be watching with great anticipation about what will happen next.
