Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington D.C. and in the U.S. Virgin Islands. You can find out where to play Mega Millions in your area by visiting your local state lottery. There are links to each state lottery that offers Mega Millions games through the official website.
Mega Millions tickets cost $1 each, and you can add the megaplier option for an additional $1. Mega Millions is the second most popular lottery jackpot game played in the U.S. It follows Powerball as the most popular due to both games having large jackpots that can roll over to large amounts. The Powerball jackpot has rolled since Jan. 13, and the Mega Millions jackpot has rolled since Jan. 12, after it reset to $15 million following a Jan. 8, $165 million jackpot win in New York. Powerball jackpots reset to $40 million, and was reset on Jan. 16 after three winning tickets were sold in the Jan. 13 drawing for $1.58 billion.
Playing Mega Millions is easy, and while many people would prefer to play the lottery online, that option is only available in select states. Check with your local state lottery to find the rules and regulations regarding things like playing lottery games online or using credit cards to purchase lottery tickets. There are many scam artists and fraudulent sites that will try and get you to purchase lottery tickets such as Powerball and Mega Millions online. In order to protect yourself from scams, check with your local state lottery and only play games through legitimate retailers.
Mega Millions is played by choosing five white balls with numbers ranging between 1 and 75 and a gold-colored, Mega Ball between the numbers 1 and 15. Tickets cost $1. A Mega Millions megaplier option is available for an additional $1, and this can multiply the amount of non-jackpot prizes. Also, check with your local state lottery to see if the megaplier option is available. Most states offer the megaplier in amounts of 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x. It’s also important to note that California uses a pari-mutuel system for their second-ninth tier prizes. This means that while other states will have a set or fixed amount for the amount won in non-jackpot Mega Millions prizes, the amounts won in California will vary based upon how many people have played and won and how many tickets were sold.
