The retirement of Daniel Bryan shocked the world, but many knew it would be coming due to his mounting injuries. Once he retired, speculation grew regarding the role he may have with WWE — if there would be any. Now, there are other rumors swirling around, and one of them is that Bryan may actually end up as part of the 2016 class of the WWE Hall of Fame.
So far, WWE has only officially announced two names for the 2016 class, with the second coming last night on Monday Night Raw. Sting was officially announced as the first entrant for this year.
Yes, The Godfather was announced last night, and it’s not an overly big surprise due to his long career in wrestling and his multiple gimmicks, as WWE.com confirmed. Charles Wright was a part of WWF/WWE in the early ’90s and then returned after a year absence and was a part of WWE from 1994-2002.
There will likely be three or four more inductees named by the time WrestleMania 32 weekend rolls around. Most times, the inductees for the WWE Hall of Fame haven’t been active wrestlers in quite some time, but Sting wrestled as recently as last year.
That is what makes the possibility of Daniel Bryan being inducted not as far-fetched as one may think.
Wrestling Inc. reports that talk of Bryan going into the Hall of Fame this year started immediately after his retirement announcement. It’s possible that he could be thrown in and announced as an inductee, but is that a smart thing for WWE to do?
There are some who believe adding Daniel Bryan to the class means that WWE doesn’t have as much faith in Sting to carry it. Usually, there is one huge name and a number of other very deserving inductees, and it looked as if it was going to be the Stinger as the leader of this class.
After Sting was announced as the first inductee, What Culture revealed a reportedly leaked list of the others going into the Hall of Fame this year.
- John Bradshaw Layfield aka JBL
- The Fabulous Freebirds
- Charles Wright aka Papa Shango/The Godfather/Kama Mustafa/The Goodfather
- Regis Philbin for the celebrity wing
Well, that list is right on one of those, as The Godfather was announced on Monday Night Raw and will be going into the hall. The Inquisitr also recently reported that Kevin Von Erich was asked into Dallas for the WrestleMania 32 weekend, and it’s believed he will induct the Fabulous Freebirds, which would add even more credit to this “leaked list.”
If Daniel Bryan goes into the WWE Hall of Fame with the rest of the 2016 class, it would be very deserving and understood. WWE has already said that they want the WrestleMania 32 weekend to be absolutely huge, and having headliners in the class by the names of Sting and Daniel Bryan would help that.
If not this year, it is highly expected that Daniel Bryan will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next year. He would lead the 2017 class all on his own as the headliner, and leaving Sting as the main headliner this year wouldn’t be bad at all.
According to the Garden, WWE is already planning a “Daniel Bryan Night” at Madison Square Garden for a huge show the weekend before WrestleMania 32. It’s not known exactly what will happen at Madison Square Garden, but Bryan will be present.
WrestleMania 32 is already gaining a lot of steam to be a huge event with three confirmed matches and two confirmed inductees for the WWE Hall of Fame. Is Daniel Bryan going to be part of the 2016 class? Only time will tell, but this year or next or the year after, it would be a very deserving induction.
