‘Baywatch’ The Movie: The Rock Shares Photo Of First Day Of Filming With Zac Efron

Last year, it was announced that the long-awaited Baywatch movie was finalized, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the lead role. Filming for the movie version of the 90s TV series has finally started, and The Rock shared photos on his Instagram account.

The Rock will be playing Mitch Buchannon, the character popularized by David Hasselhoff. The first image The Rock shared was of the cast sitting around a table during a cold read. Fans can’t help but notice Zac Efron’s pullover that reads, “BAE WATCH.”

On Monday, the first day of shooting for Baywatch officially started, and as Dwayne stated on his Instagram, his character gave Zac’s character a speech on “what it means to have manly ‘Alpha Balls.'” Zac Efron plays the character of Matt Brody, a newcomer who will learn the ropes from Buchannon, who is an experienced life guard.

Last year, The Rock told ET Online how excited he was to be working on Baywatch with Zac Efron.

“We’re excited about it. I’ve known Zac for some time for years by the way, and this project has been in our wheelhouse and we’re very excited to make the movie.”

Another castmate, Kelly Rohrbach, who will be playing Pamela Anderson’s role in the TV series, CJ Parker, also shared her excitement on Instagram by re-posting The Rock’s photo of the cast. She said, “We have such a hilarious and cool cast, amazing location, talented crew, writers, director, producers. It’s gon’ be off the chain. Get ready for a wild ride!”

According to My Palm Beach Post, the beachfront park and parking lot of Palm Beach County was closed to the public to accommodate filming a few scenes for Baywatch. The shooting permits issued also note that the park will be closed to all vehicles on February 29.

Based on a copy of the shooting permits submitted by Paramount Worldwide Productions, Inc. and Viacom, Inc., there will be two stunt scenes filmed at the beach. The first one includes a rescue operation of a kite surfer, and the second one features tossing a body into the water.

Director of public relations and communications at Palm Beaches, Ashley Svarney, released a statement regarding filming of Baywatch in the area.

“It’s exciting to see an iconic production such as Baywatch choosing to use the beautiful blue waters of The Palm Beaches, which are such a vibrant turquoise, as the backdrop for this star-studded motion picture.”

On Monday, photos of the first day of shooting Baywatch were released, showing Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson sporting red and blue wet suits and board shorts. The two actors were photographed aboard a speedboat. The Rock also shared a picture of himself and Zac.

The Baywatch TV series first aired in 1989 on NBC, but it was canceled after just one season due to poor ratings. Hasselhoff and the producers of the show, however, thought that it shouldn’t be the end for Baywatch, and they revived the series in 1991. The second run of the show was a worldwide success.

The Baywatch TV series centered on a team of lifeguards patrolling the beaches of Los Angeles, California and later in Hawaii. They deal with beach disasters and dangers ranging from earthquakes to shark attacks, and even serial killers.

The Baywatch movie is directed by Seth Gordon. No release date has been announced, but it is speculated that the film will be shown in theaters sometime next year.
