Lucky Londoners who happened by the set of Doctor Strange managed to capture footage of actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Benedict Wong filming a scene in full costume. One video taken is just under twenty minutes long and was recorded on a mobile phone by Periscope user Sanford Dickert, who added his own commentary.

On Sunday, February 21, Dickert posted his video, and the Anything Cumberbatch Twitter account collected and shared photos and videos of the filming of Doctor Strange. Fans can get an up close look at Cumberbatch as the Doctor and some footage from the London set.

According to Flickering Myth, Doctor Strange will be mostly set in New York City, and those who have viewed the videos and photos of filming say the London set appears to have been transformed into the Big Apple, flush with yellow taxi cabs. New York City taxis were reportedly spotted heading to the site of the Doctor Strange shoot.

The footage consists of re-shots of a single scene where Strange and Mordo rush to check on a man who appears to be wearing the yellow habits of a monk, who could be Wong. Cumberbatch is in full costume as Doctor Strange, complete with flowing red cape, and Ejiofor is wearing a green tunic and appears to have a sword strapped to his back, according to Comic Book Resources.

One photo a bystander took is a clear shot of Cumberbatch with a bleeding cut on his face.

Production began on Doctor Strange November 2015 in Nepal. Besides London, production will also take place in New York, Hong Kong, and Kathmandu. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister), with the script written by Jon Spats, and will follow the story of Dr. Stephen Strange who discovers alternate dimensions after a car accident. The film is based on the comic book characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

The cast members and their roles that have been revealed so far are Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) as Stephen Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong (The Martian) as Wong, and Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer) as The Ancient One.

The Notebook actress Rachel McAdams as well as Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen have also been cast, but their roles haven’t been confirmed; however, plenty of speculation has surrounded them and where they’ll fit into Doctor Strange. McAdams is rumored to be playing Night Nurse, and some reports speculate that Mikkelsen is the film’s true villain and will play the Dark Dimension or Dormammu.

Actor Michael Stuhlbarg is rumored to be playing Nicodemus West, and the roles for Amy Landecker and Scott Adkins are also being kept tightly under wraps.

Doctor Strange is one of the most highly anticipated comic book movies of the year, but news of the film has been lacking lately since Marvel has been focusing their marketing on the Captain America: Civil War film, according to Movie Pilot. Now that production has moved to London, more news might be forthcoming.

If the photos and video from the set aren’t enough to be excited about, then perhaps Ejiofer’s enthusiasm for his role as Baron Mordo will do the trick. He said he was “excited by the universe, first of all,” in reference to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“The extraordinary technical and visual achievements that Marvel have done at this point… are amazing. I think that [Doctor Strange] also has this really unique place – it’s much more of a fantastical world, and I think it’s going to have a very stunning visual style and great characters.”

Doctor Strange is set for release on October 28 in the UK and November 4 in the US. Are you ready to see Benedict Cumberbatch in a superhero film?
