Drake Shocks Bat Mitzvah Crowd With ‘Hotline Bling’ and ‘My Way’ Performances

Drake still does bat mitzvahs, guys. The Toronto rapper surprised a young fan with performances of “Hotline Bling” and “My Way,” and “Summer Sixteen,” at her bat mitzvah, Gossip Cop reports. There’s even video to prove it.

In the videos, you can see the bat mitzvah girl in a shiny dress and she can be seen singing along with Drake and the rest of her friends. During his performance of ‘Hotline Bling,’ Drake goes right up to the girl and sings with her.

Drake, of course, should be no stranger to bar and bat mitzvahs. He is Jewish, and has referenced his bar mitzvah in the music video for the song ‘HYFR.’ When he last hosted Saturday Night Live, Drake did his opening skit based on his bar mitzvah experience. The skit brought together both his black and Jewish heritages and he rapped about “celebrating Hanukkah and dating Rihanna-ka.” He also rapped, “Just performed at a Bar Mitzvah over in the states / Used half of the money to beat my brother’s case,” on the album Take Care.

When he’s not performing at bat mitzvahs, Drake has been working on his new album, Views from The 6. Drake fans have been waiting a long time for this body of work, but it looks like they won’t have to wait much longer. There are rumors that Views will be released in April of this year.

Drake’s longtime producer, Noah “40” Shebib, has said that fans should expect something very different from Drake on this new album.

“It’s going to be what everybody expects and wants from Drake and from us,” he said in an interview with the New York Times. “A lot of introspection, very vivid. He’s discovering new flows, new cadences, new patterns.”

He’s also applying a more experimental way of creating the beats for Views From The 6.

“I’m trying to find ways to pull more untraditional sounds in, to push the boundaries a little further,” he said of his creative process. “Something about it should be special.”

The two have worked together on Drake’s albums: Nothing Was The Same and Take Care. But Views From The 6 is also following up mixtapes that Drake has released in the past like, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive. According to the New York Times, Shebib had this to say about how he collaborates with Drake.

“I just make 50 ideas in one day,” he said. “As soon as one of those ideas gets [Drake’s] attention, we start heading that way.”

Before Views drops, Drake will next be seen in the video for Rihanna’s new single “Work.” The song which is heavily influenced by Jamaican dancehall, brings Drake and Rihanna together on a track for the first time in years. Drake posted pictures from the video shoot on his Instagram. Things look pretty steamy in the clips between the Canadian rapper and Barbadian pop singer. The two have been romantically linked in the past, so there’s no surprise that there’s some chemistry between them.

According to the CBC, the video was shot in Toronto in a Jamaican restaurant called The Real Jerk. Castings were also held for dancers in Toronto. The restaurant is reportedly a favorite of Drake’s, and was closed for a day to accommodate the video shoot.

“He really looks out for his Toronto people,” Lily Pottinger, co-owner of The Real Jerk told CBC News after the video shoot.

The video is expected to drop on Monday, February 22.
