The past week has been one Joey and Rory Feek will never forget. In just one week, Joey and Rory have celebrated the release of their final album Joey+Rory: Hymns That Are Important To Us, their Grammy nomination, Valentine’s Day, and their daughter Indiana’s second birthday.
“There have been big parties for little people and small losses with great lessons… and we even had a romantic night filled with more love for each other than we even thought was possible,” Rory wrote in a post on his blog This Life I Live.“But mostly, this has been a week filled with thankfulness.”
Although Joey and Rory didn’t take home the Grammy Award for Best Vocal Duo — the award went to Little Big Town for their song “Girl Crush” — they were more than grateful to receive the nomination. Joey tried her best to persuade Rory to attend the awards ceremony, even purchasing him a plane ticket to Los Angeles. However, Rory refused to leave her side, and opted to stay home and watch the Grammys with Joey.
“Joey and I watched the Pre-Grammy celebration together – the early portion of the show where the award that we were up for and some others were given out,” Rory wrote. “To say it was a bit surreal to be where we are, looking at where our music has taken us, is an understatement.”
“I’ve said before that just being nominated is enough. But after having more time to think about it… that’s not actually true. Instead, I would say that just being able to wake up and look into the eyes of the people we care about and tell them that we love them is enough. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
“The truth is, God has blessed us with the gift of something even bigger than a Grammy award this year… perspective.”

Although Rory refused to attend this year’s Grammys, Joey made him promise to attend the awards if they were to ever be nominated again.
“She talked about how if we were to ever be nominated again, that I have to promise her that I would go,” Rory wrote. “And I told her that I would. Then her smile widened and she winked and said, ‘and guess what… I’ll know the winner before you do.'”
After their romantic Valentine’s dinner and the Grammy Awards, Joey and Rory had one final celebration — Indy’s birthday! Rory said Joey barely slept the night before the party because she was so excited with anticipation to see her little girl on her birthday.
“When Joey woke up, a little before noon, I came in to see her… and tears were flowing down her face. Again, I put my arms around her and asked, ‘why are you crying honey?’ … ‘We made it…,’ she softly answered. ‘We made it.'”
On Wednesday, Joey and Rory threw Indiana an adorable “Gruffalo-themed” birthday party. All day, Rory said, the mail man stopped at their house to deliver presents from fans from all over the country. There were so many presents that it took the help of all of Indy’s cousins to help her open them all.
“So by the time the birthday song had been sung and the birthday cake had been eaten and we got around to opening gifts… it took all of her cousins to help her get the presents open,” Rory wrote. “We decorated the room that Joey is staying in and set Indy’s high-chair with a ballon on it right beside her bed… so Joey could see and be part of the whole thing.”
“Thank you Lord that we were able to all be together for this special day, for this special week.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
