Britney Spears is showing, and then promptly deleting, her support for Hillary Clinton.
Spears recently met up with presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, and her husband Bill Clinton, in Las Vegas on February 18, where she appeared to throw in her support behind Clinton for the upcoming U.S. Presidential election.
However it looks like Britney may have quickly changed her tune when it comes to which politician she’s publicly supporting.
Spears took to Instagram to show off two photos from her Sin City meet-up with Hillary, even describing Clinton as “an inspiration and beautiful voice for women around the world” in one, but it’s what she’s now not saying in the photo’s caption that’s got fans and politics followers talking.
According to The Daily Mail, Spears’ original photo caption first read as follows.
“Being in Vegas for #PieceOfMe is amazing for so many reasons… Especially today… because I had the incredible opportunity to meet [Hillary Clinton]!! Such an inspiration and beautiful voice for women around the world!!! This woman had an intense presence and I felt very honored to meet her!!! #ImWithHer”
Now, the caption has been updated.
The Daily Mail is reporting that shortly after the photo was posted, the caption was allegedly pulled from Spears Instagram account and re-uploaded to the social media site without the hashtag “ImWithHer.”
Spears has yet to publicly speak out about what caused the caption amendment, though she later posted another photo of herself with Hillary Clinton in what appeared to be a Las Vegas hotel room on the site without a caption.
While it’s not clear why Britney, or a member of her team, deleted the “ImWithHer” hashtag, fans took to social media to speculate exactly why Spears appeared to have revoked her support for the presidential hopeful.
“I’m cackling!!!” Twitter user @capitalized wrote on the 140-character site, speculating that it may not have been Britney herself who posted the photo to her Instagram account. “Britney told her gay intern to delete the posts to take out ‘#imwithher.'”
“Britney took out the #ImWithHer hashtag off her Instagram post,” fellow Twitter user and Britney fan @Gaga4BritBrit tweeted. “Maybe she isn’t voting for Hillary, just excited to meet her.”
According to GossipCop, a number of fans even claimed that they were unfollowing Spears on the social media site following the political statement. “Yuck… officially unfollowing,” one Twitter user allegedly commented on the photo according to the site, with another social media user writing, “Respect. Lost.”
Instagram users also took aim at Britney and Hillary on Instagram in the photo’s comments.
“So many reasons just no!!! But Just for the simple fact that she is with a cheater, lecherous, freeloading ex president for political gain sickens me,” Instagram user kellychance wrote on Spears’ Instagram of Clinton. “What kind of example is she setting?”
“I guess it takes a hypocritical liar to like one. Or just $$$$ in Brit’s pocket,” user xohargissxo wrote. “Dumb move either way.”
Though Britney Spears has remained pretty tight lipped on who she’s planning on voting for in the U.S. presidential election of 2016 prior to her Hillary Clinton meeting, Spears allegedly spoke out about her political views in a 2003 interview with CNN that she “supports” George Bush, who was the U.S. president at the time.
“Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes and should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens,” Spears told CNN when political news correspondent Tucker Carlson quizzed Spears on her stance regarding the Iraq war.
Carlson then asked Britney if she trusted then President Bush, to which she replied, “Yes, I do.”
Why do you think Britney Spears deleted the “ImWithHer” hashtag alongside her photo with Hillary Clinton?
