‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts I & 2’: Book 8 About The World’s Favorite Wizard

A new Harry Potter book is coming soon. The title is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II, but it has been dubbed Harry Potter 8 by fans all over the world. The news that has those fans rejoicing came from J.K. Rowling’s agent, Neil Blair of The Blair Partnership.

“The Blair Partnership, announced an exciting new publishing programme from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, in collaboration with her publishing partners in the UK and US. Launching on the 31st July with the script book of the stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II, the programme of new print and digital products will roll out well into 2019, to include brand new editions of the Hogwarts Library books, as well as Warner Bros. licensed publishing relating to Harry Potter and the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Harry Potter 8 is not a new story from J.K. Rowling, however. It actually is the script for a play by Jack Thorne that is also titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II. Rowling worked on that script with Thorne as well as John Tiffany. The play will open in London on July 30. As news of the play spread, fans across the world voiced their disappointment on social media that they would not be able to attend the production. The publication of Harry Potter 8 is in response to their outcry. The publication date will be July 31. The print version of Harry Potter 8 will be published by Little, Brown Group in the UK and by Scholastic in the U.S. and Canada. Pottermore, the digital publisher of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, will make electronic versions of Harry Potter 8 available on the same date.

There will be two print versions of Harry Potter 8. The version that will be made available on July 31 is being called the Special Rehearsal edition. It will contain the version of the script that will be used early in the play’s preview period. During this period, the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script may undergo changes as rehearsals proceed and the creative team identifies opportunities for improvement of the script. At a later date, a Definitive Collector’s Edition of Harry Potter 8 will be available. There are no further details about this final version at this time.

Harry Potter the Play is a website dedicated to the stage production of Harry Potter 8. It describes Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in this way.

“It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

“While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

The announcement on Pottermore, the website of J.K. Rowling, tells us a bit more about the plot of Harry Potter 8.

“Readers and moviegoers last saw Harry waving off his children at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, in the epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picks up after that moment and is staged in two parts, due to the ‘epic nature of the story’.”

The total Harry Potter series is comprised of seven books that were published between 1997 and 2007. Over 450 million copies have been sold worldwide. The Harry Potter series has been translated into 79 languages, and all of the books have been turned into highly successful feature-length films.
