Nina Dobrev Ready To Reconcile With Former ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Love Ian Somerhalder On And Off Screen?

Ever her since her breakup with Ian Somerhalder and her departure from The Vampire Diaries, fans have waited for Nina Dobrev to reunite with her former love. Unfortunately, not only has Dobrev kept away from the set of The Vampire Diaries, but she has yet to reconnect with Somerhalder. However, with Dobrev’s recent split with Austin Stowell, is she getting ready to reconcile with Somerhalder?

According to E! Online, Dobrev has decided to end things with Stowell because of a conflict of schedules. Luckily, the two were only together for a short period of time, and their split appears to be amicable.

“It started to get hard with both of their schedules,” an insider told the outlet. “They remain on good terms.”

With Dobrev once again single, is there a chance that she’ll find her way back to Somerhalder? While fans can only hope that this ends up happening, the situation is a little more complicated than a simple reunion between the two stars.

In order for Dobrev to get back together with Somerhalder, the latter would have to end his current marriage with Twilight alum Nikki Reed. That being said, Movie News Guide is reporting that things between Reed and Somerhalder may not be as good as they appear on the surface.

The main issue between the couple is Somerhalder’s desire to have children and start a family. With Reed’s career starting to take off again, there are some questions as to whether or not Reed will want to postpone her career and have a baby.

At the same, Dobrev and Somerhalder are still on good terms with each other despite their split. Will this offer an opportunity for Dobrev and Somerhalder to reconcile if things don’t work with Reed?

While it is still up in the air if the two get back together, fans might see Dobrev and Somerhalder reunited on screen in the near future. In fact, in an interview with Collider, executive producer Caroline Dries left open the door for Dobrev’s return in the series finale.

“I would say that if The CW called today and was like, ‘By the way, Season 7 is the last season,’ then I think we would scramble to make sure that she was in the finale,” Dries explained in the interview. “But as of right now, we’re acting like the show will go on, so no.”

Although Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries at the end of Season 6, her character was not killed off on the show. Instead, producers decided to keep her character, Elena, involved in the story as something Somerhalder’s character continued to deal with moving forward.

Somerhalder recently sat down with Collider and discussed how much Dobrev’s character still influences the series. In particular, Somerhalder explained how his character’s need to keep Elena safe is at the root of his issues this season, and he promised that the end of the road would be interesting to see unfold.

“It all stems from that and his desire to keep her close. The biggest thing he has to come to terms with is that he’s dangerous, and he’s volatile, and he makes really bad decisions,” he shared. “If he can relinquish that need and abdicate that throne of feeling that he has the power to protect her… he’s put her in more danger than anyone she’s ever known or ever will know. So, this is going to be an interesting journey for him. It’s going to be fun for the audience to see what happens to him, after that crazy journey.”

The seventh season of The Vampire Diaries continues Fridays on The CW.
