Adele Reveals She ‘Cried All Day’ Following Grammy Technical Issues

Adele is admitting that she “cried all day” following her 2016 Grammy performance, which was plagued by sound issues.

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to discuss her much-anticipated Grammy performance, Adele admitted that she was “embarrassed” by the sound mishap and couldn’t stop herself from tearing up the following day.

“Sound check went great, I was really excited,” Adele recalled on the daytime talk show, “and then during the ad break the microphones fell onto the piano strings, which was what the guitar noise was.”

“I was embarrassed,” Adele revealed on the popular daytime show, even revealing that she “cried pretty much all day” following the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. “I kept spontaneously bursting into tears for no reason yesterday,” Adele said.

Adele also told DeGeneres that she instantly knew what the issue was when she began her performance of “All I Ask,” but was unable to fix the issue. “I heard it straight away … I knew what it was because in rehearsal on the Saturday they told me ‘okay, we’re going to double mic the piano just in case one doesn’t work,’ ” Adele admitted.

“I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around … but I froze,” Adele continued, “It just kind of put the whole thing off really.” But despite the microphone issue, Adele also revealed that she felt the performance actually went pretty well.

“I actually felt like it went well,” Adele told Ellen, joking that she’s “always a bit pitchy” because of the intense emotion she puts into her performances.

But despite recalling the unfortunate Grammy mishap that left her in tears, Adele didn’t let the moment get her down, even managing to crack a joke about the snafu to DeGeneres. “Some people thought it was [Justin] Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him! We’re on great terms,” Adele joked.

Adele’s teary confession comes just hours after several sources revealed that she was so upset by the technical issues that plagued her Grammy performance that Adele actually skipped the Sony Music Entertainment 2016 Post-Grammy Reception she was expected to attend following the event.

According to an insider who spoke to Showbiz411, Adele was seriously “pissed” about the sound problems and left the Staples Center in Los Angeles where the ceremony was held “in a huff.”

Adele herself appeared to confirm the report, tweeting out after the ceremony that she was treating herself to food from L.A. fast food chain In-N-Out Burger, rather than hitting the various Grammy after parties.

“The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that’s what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune. S*** happens,” Adele tweeted on February 15. “Because of it though … I’m treating myself to an in n out [sic], so maybe it was worth it.”

Recording Academy President Neil Portnow also spoke about Adele’s performance in the Grammy press-room after the prestigious music awards ceremony, where he confirmed that the problems were created by microphones inside the piano Adele was using.

“We have the most complicated technical show on television when it comes to music, bar none,” Portnow told reporters of Adele’s performance, according to The LA Times. “Inside the piano are microphones, and a mic dropped into the strings. It happens to all sorts of people, but it rarely happens on our show.”

“When we switched over to the backup system, it had to drop out for a few seconds,” Portnow continued backstage at the Staples Center of Adele’s technical issues. “When performing in intimate performance, it can be unnerving. We certainly don’t like it when those things happen, but they happen.”
