Runic Games Still Targeting Summer Release Date for Torchlight II

Yesterday, we received some relatively bad news from Runic Games founder Travis Baldree concerning Torchlight II‘s release date. The bad news being, there isn’t a release date yet.

So why do we still not have a release date nearly two years after the game was originally announced? Well, Baldree explained in a post on the company’s forums that the development team still has a bit of polishing up to do on each of the class’ skills, as well as the game’s final acts.

The post, while generally reassuring, had some wondering if Torchlight II might end up missing its summer 2012 release date. However, speaking to Joystiq, Baldree explained that the company is still shooting for a summer release date–it just might be at the tail end of it.

“The end of summer is September 25th or something like that, right?” he asked. “We’re still trying to get it done for summer. It’s a big game and we’ve still got some polish to go.”

After spending a few days with the Torchlight II beta, I have to say that I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on the full product. The first game was a gem, and the sequel just so happens to fix every issue I had, small as they were.

Have you tried the Torchlight II beta? Will you be picking up the full game?
