Lamar Odom’s Recovery Includes Career As Substance Abuse Counselor, Source Claims

Lamar Odom’s recovery could take on a whole new look before too long. According to reports, the former NBA player wants to use his second chance at life to help other professional athletes avoid drugs and stay at the top of their game.

In order to do so, Odom would like to become a substance abuse counselor, according to Hollywood Life.

A source told the news outlet that Odom is is grateful for all the support he has seen since his October drug overdose, and the former Los Angeles Laker would like to give back in a pretty specific way.

“So many people have shown him so much love over the past months when he was at his worse and he wants to give back. That’s why he’s considering talking to the NBA to become a substance abuse counselor.”

The source goes on to say that, as a former NBA player, Khloe Kardashian’s estranged husband knows what it’s like for a professional athlete to try to stay on the straight-and-narrow, especially with so many outside temptations circling around.

Additionally, the source told Hollywood Life that Odom also understands just how easy it really is for professional athletes to “get anything they want.” Lammy also has personal experience when it comes to getting caught up in the glamorous pro-basketball player lifestyle, the source told Hollywood Life.

“Lam knows firsthand the pressure basketball players are under and he understands how easy it is for them to get anything they want in a heartbeat. Lam also knows the off-the-court lifestyle can be very tempting and dangerous even and he wants to help some of the young cats in the league not to get caught up in all the glam and party life that’s thrown their way. He wants to do good. He’s been given another life to live.”

Back in October, Odom was discovered unconscious in a Las Vegas area brothel where, according to reports, Lamar had taken a dangerous mix of cocaine and a sexual performance-enhancing drug. According to the 911 call, Odom had blood streaming from his nose and was foaming at the mouth when two brothel employees found him.

Odom was taken to a hospital in Las Vegas, where he spent several weeks before he was airlifted to a Los Angeles hospital.Odom’s estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, spent many of the days and nights by his side and is said to have been an instrumental piece of Lamar Odom’s recovery process.

When Odom was first admitted to the hospital, TMZ reported that the basketball star had been given a 50/50 chance of survival. Since, Odom’s recovery efforts have included relearning cognitive and physical abilities, such as reclaiming his memory and learning how to walk again. Reports indicate that Odom’s recovery has been nothing short of miraculous.

When Odom was finally released from the hospital earlier this year, rumors indicated that Lamar had moved in with Kardashian while he continued his rehabilitation efforts. Odom has since leased and moved into his own place near Kardashian’s house, according to reports.

Additionally, Odom has been seen in public several times since his hospital release, and his first official public appearance came on Feb. 11 when he flew to New York with Kardashian and her family. While in New York City, Odom attended Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 launch in Madison Square Garden. He also reportedly spent Super Bowl Sunday hiking with Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian.
