Powerball is the nation’s number one lottery jackpot game followed by Mega Millions. Known for having large jackpots, the Powerball jackpot always resets to $40 million following a grand prize win, while the Mega Millions jackpot resets to only $15 million. While Mega Millions jackpots have climbed to large amounts, no jackpot game on the planet has reached the height as the Jan. 13 Powerball jackpot. On Jan. 13, the Powerball jackpot reached $1.58 billion after it rolled from November. There were three winning tickets sold in the billion-dollar drawing. One ticket was sold in California, one in Tennessee, and one in Florida. The Tennessee Powerball winners were John and Lisa Robinson. The Robinsons came forward and even appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show to discuss their incredible win.

While the Tennessee Powerball jackpot winners went public early after their win was announced, the Florida and California winners remained silent. On Feb. 17, the Florida Lottery held a press conference and introduced the couple that had won the winning Florida Powerball ticket from the epic Jan. 13, $1.58 billion drawing. The couple spoke publicly and described both their excitement and concern after becoming sudden multi-millionaires.

The California Powerball jackpot winner has yet to come forward, but many think they too will follow suit and hold a press conference as the Florida winning couple has done. There has been a great deal of speculation surrounding the California Powerball winners, and the Internet went crazy with rumors surrounding the winner’s death. Facebook and Twitter were flooded with posts suggesting that the California Powerball winner had spent his winnings on cocaine and hookers, partied non-stop and ultimately overdosed just days after winning the billion-dollar jackpot.

The excitement that surrounded the billion dollar jackpot was unlike anything ever seen in lottery history. Due to changes made to Powerball in October 2015, the Multi State Lottery Association (MUSL) has announced that larger jackpots will be coming in the future. It is more difficult to win the Powerball jackpot, as evidenced by the fact that since mid-November to mid-February there has only been the winning tickets from Jan. 13. As the Powerball jackpot is harder to win, more non-jackpot prizes will be given and the grand prize will continue to roll to large amounts.

Are you a regular Powerball player? Do you play the same numbers or use Quick Picks? Interestingly, in the interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the Tennessee Powerball winners stated that they bought four Quick Pick Powerball tickets and one of those tickets matched the winning numbers. Maureen Smith, who purchased the Florida winning Powerball ticket, stated that she actually bought two tickets that night. One was a Quick Pick ticket while the other was numbers she had played off and on for 30 years. The Powerball billion dollar winning ticket was her number combination that she had played for years.

Stay tuned and check back at 11:00 p.m. ET for the winning numbers results and the Powerball live drawing video.

Good luck!
