Zendaya Responds To Her Grammys Mullet While Her Dad Addresses The Odell Beckham Dating Rumors
Zendaya turned heads and confused fans when she showed up to the 2016 Grammys red carpet with a mullet. Some wondered if the singer and actress was for real about her style. Now she’s addressing the haters, while her dad is addressing the rumors that she’s dating NFL player Odell Beckham.
First, Zendaya is firing back at the critics who slammed her Grammys red carpet look. Though she was praised for wearing a suit instead of a dress, her hairstyle choice was questionable. On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Disney star took to Instagram to post a photo of herself without her mullet and wrote in the caption, “Please, mullet or no mullet you know I’m still going to be your WCW tomorrow.”
Last year, the teen queen made headlines when she wore a Vivienne Westwood gown and long dreadlocks at the Academy Awards. The very next day on Fashion Police, former E! correspondent Giuliana Rancic said that Zendaya looked as if she smelled like a mixture of “patchouli oil” and “weed.” The insensitive comment caused controversy, with Zendaya’s fans calling out the double standards when a woman of color wears her hair in braids.
Even the Disney star released a lengthy statement of her own, explaining why Rancic’s comments were both offensive and disrespectful.

Because of that very moment, Zendaya’s team would not allow her to Giuliana to interview her again this year. Instead, Ryan Seacrest interviewed the actress on the red carpet.
On Monday night, the 19-year-old broke down her look to Entertainment Tonight. She said that she wanted to pay an homage to the late David Bowie’s signature androgynous style, referring to her red carpet look as “kind of a throwback.”
“This hair was actually kind of an out-of-the-blue type hair. I wanted to do the short blonde, but I wanted to do something different, so I was like, ‘Let’s do a mullet!'”
Zendaya has also been making headlines for getting cozy with NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. The two were first spotted leaving a Grammy after party together, according to a TMZ report. A reporter asked Zendaya for details on her and Beckham’s blossoming relationship. Then they asked whether the two met online or through “mutual friends.”
While waiting for her car, Zendaya nonchalantly responded, “How did we meet? I don’t know…”
Then the singer’s father appears and answers a question about whether if he “approves” of the couple’s relationship. That’s when he denied that the young couple is dating.
“What relationship? There’s no relationship. We’re just friends.”
He also made it clear that he always chaperones his daughter on her dates. That must be awkward for everyone involved.
“When you see my daughter out on a date without me, it’s a relationship. It’s like an audition…It’s an interview.”
Apparently, the date worked out well because the athlete wrapped his arm around Zendaya’s waist on the red carpet and didn’t let go until photographers asked for an individual photo of the entertainer, according to People. The couple was then spotted entering a party located at The Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, sparking the rumors that the couple could be dating. That’s probably why Zendaya’s father wasn’t far too behind them.
Ironically enough, she told Complex in her December 2015/January 2016 that she doesn’t have time for a boyfriend because of her burgeoning career.
“I don’t have time to go out and get to know somebody. If I didn’t know you from the last three or four years of my life, it’s probably too late.”
