Jodie Sweetin is in a happy place, with her recent engagement to Justin Hodak and the debut of her spin-off series, Fuller House, set to stream on Netflix later this month. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sweetin showed off her sparkly engagement ring and gushed about her man, revealing that her Full House family loves Hodak, whom she has been dating for two years.

Sweetin even added that her two young daughters, Zoie, 7, and Beatrix 5, are deliriously happy and totally approve of their future stepfather.

“We’re really happy and my kids were there when he asked me and they gave their approval. They were thrilled and we have a great life today. It’s amazing.”

But could Jodie Sweetin’s happiness be short lived? While the 34-year-old actress has a wedding to plan and has even revealed that she’ll be inviting her Fuller House family, including her TV dad Bob Saget, to the ceremony, she’s already putting off her nuptials until “a couple years down the road.” Sweetin has been married three other times, so maybe that’s why she’s putting on the brakes before she walks down the aisle for a fourth time.

But news is also is out that Jodie’s fiancé doesn’t exactly have a squeaky clean past, so that could be another reason why she’s taking things slow. According to a report from Radar Online, Sweetin’s husband-to-be served nine months in prison for drug-related charges. Court papers revealed that Hodak was locked up starting in 1999 after he was convicted on “drug and stolen property charges,” and then he committed a parole violation and was put back behind bars from January to March 2001. An insider predicted that Sweetin won’t be happy that the news about her fiancé’s sketchy past has been leaked.

“Jodie is going to be red-faced with embarrassment when this gets out!”

Jodie Sweetin has been vocal about her own past history with drugs. The former child star detailed her sad cycle of drug abuse in her 2009 memoir, UnSweetined. In an interview with Us Weekly, Sweetin revealed that she started heavy drinking at age 14, at her Full House co-star Candace Cameron-Bure’s wedding, no less! By the time she was in college, Jodie was regularly doing ecstasy and cocaine.

“I wanted to prove that I could get more trashed than anyone. There were times I did so much coke, I’d be there laying there, getting sick and thinking ‘I’m going to die.’ But I didn’t care.”

Sweetin even admitted to doing drugs at a premiere for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s 2004 movie, New York Minute. Jodie said she snorted meth in the bathroom while attending the red carpet premiere with her TV co-stars, but no one had any idea she was still doing drugs at the time. She described herself as an “angry and fearful person living a double life.”

Jodie Sweetin said she hit “rock bottom” after drinking and driving with her young daughter in the car. She decided to get sober for good in 2008 after mixing Nyquil with a heavy night of drinking.

“From that day forward, I threw myself into going to AA and avoided people who do blow off their coffee tables.”

While they both have had difficult pasts, Jodie Sweetin and Justin Hodak seem to have put their drug and alcohol problems behind them. They met through mutual friends and both have said they have been sober for more than 10 years, so maybe this really is a match made in heaven.
