In a shocking turn of events, it now appears as Game of Thrones sixth season may feature more surprises than ever. Although the fate of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has dominated the conversation so far, recent photos have revealed that Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) may be pregnant. If this turns out to be true, then who is the father?

The recent photos, which can be viewed on Express, were part of a larger batch of promotional materials released this past week. In the images of Sansa, the character appears very tired and is wearing a large grey cloak. Hidden beneath the cloak appears to be a small hump on her belly.

As fans will recall, the last season of the hit fantasy drama featured a controversial scene where Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) raped Sansa after she was forced to marry him. At the end of the season, Theron Greyly (Alfie Allen) helped Sansa break free from Ramsay. Based on the photos, it seems as though Sansa is still wandering around northern Westeros while carrying a child.

The revelations about a possible baby follow Turner’s comments that the new season would include many surprising elements. Considering the implications of Sansa’s pregnancy, her baby would definitely into this category of shocking events.

“This season there’s like so many shocks, it’s massive. It’s the biggest season yet. And just like in terms of character development, so many people’s storylines, I’m excited for,” she shared. “It’s going to be good.”

Turner went on to reveal that her character would face a number of challenges this season and that it will be “a really, really big one” for Sansa. In fact, Turner admitted that Sansa’s story really comes full circle in the upcoming season, and the first five seasons have built up to what occurs in season six.

“She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it’s really good,” Turner explained. “Fans are finally getting that storyline that you’ve been craving for the past five seasons. It was amazing because the past five seasons, it feels like it’s been building up and up to that.”

According to the Independent, if Sansa really is pregnant, then the only question remaining is whether or not she decides to have the baby or not. Considering the controversial nature of last season’s rape scene and the fact that it was not included in the books, it will be interesting to see what the writers have in store for Sansa. Even further, what kind of consequences will she face if she decides to keep the baby?

Meanwhile, the Christian Post is reporting that the other images that were released also offer a glimpse at what is to come in the new season. In particular, the photos include a shot of Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) making his way to the Red Keep with they body of Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free).

At the same time, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is shown lost in thought with Ser Varys (Conleth Hill). Is this an indication that he is currently running Essos in light of Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) absence?

With so many fates up in the air, it will be interesting to see what direction the series takes, especially since this is the first season without a book to go on. Unfortunately, Jon Snow was not included in the photos that were recently released, leaving fans still wondering (and speculating) about his fate in the new season.

The sixth season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere on April 24 on HBO.
