WWE Rumors: Details Surrounding Finn Balor & Samoa Joe Call-Ups To Main Roster

Finn Balor and Samoa Joe are currently thriving in NXT, WWE’s developmental system designed to create the next generation of superstars. And according to f4wonline.com, and as reported on by wrestlinginc.com, the two NXT headliners could be making their way up to the main roster soon. According to the report, nothing is concrete, but it would be Samoa Joe who would get the promotion first, for the simple reason that Finn Balor will continue his reign as NXT Champion.

Finn and Joe are scheduled to meet for the title at WWE NXT ‘Takeover: Dallas over WrestleMania weekend, headlining a show that many diehard wrestling fans are already more invested in than WWE’s main attraction. The outcome of the Finn Balor-Samoa Joe match could very well determine the immediate futures of both superstars. If Balor retains the championship and continues his run as the face of the company (which many in charge would prefer), then Joe could very well be heading to the main roster, perhaps as soon as the following night on Monday Night RAW. If Samoa Joe becomes the new NXT Champion, it might indicate that both Joe and Balor will stay put, though a call-up would take place sometime in 2016.

Finn Balor’s NXT championship reign began in July of 2015 after defeating Kevin Owens at The Beast in the East event in Tokyo, Japan. Balor is already the third-longest reigning champion in NXT history, holding the title for more than 220 days, trailing only Bo Ballas and Adrian Neville. Owens pulled double duty last summer, working as NXT Champion as well as a superstar on the main roster, so there are no rules against doing both. If Samoa Joe doesn’t win at WWE NXT ‘Takeover: Dallas, he might not get another shot. But if his ultimate goal is to get to the main roster, that might not be such a bad thing.

We’ve heard conflicting stories in the past about whether the stars of NXT are actually aiming for a WWE roster spot, or content with their jobs with NXT. Finn Balor is 34 and the oldest NXT champion ever. Samoa Joe is 36 with a lot of miles on his tires. You’d think they’d both want to make it to RAW and Smackdown, but back in August, Balor was a guest on the PodNasty Wrestling Podcast, and raised some eyebrows with the following remarks, as transcribed by wrestlinginc.com.

“What we’re doing at NXT right now is groundbreaking. It’s revolutionary. For me, it’s like a Renaissance period in wrestling, and I want to be involved in NXT, I don’t want to go to the quote-unquote main roster, I don’t want to get called up, so to speak, because I believe that we at NXT are building something together that is going to be looked back on in 10 years the same way that we looked back on the ECW period as being revolutionary at that time, and this is something that I want to be involved in.”

NXT Women’s Champion Bayley recently shared Finn Balor’s feelings as well, but those two along with Samoa Joe have been tearing up NXT to the point where the next logical step is a promotion to the WWE main roster. Sami Zayn, Apollo Crews, and Baron Corbin also fit into that category, and with the rash of injuries inflicting the WWE locker room, it would make sense. The flip side is that Triple H and NXT management don’t want to leave the cupboard bare, either.

The Finn Balor-Samoa Joe main event at WWE NXT ‘Takeover: Dallas will be compelling for several reasons. First, it should undoubtedly be a stellar match on its own. And second, it might foreshadow their NXT and WWE immediate futures. Definitely worthy of keeping an eye on.
