‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Trailer: What Does It Mean For This Season?

HBO released its new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6, but there are now many more questions rather than answers. What does it mean for the characters this year?

Fans have wanted to know about Jon Snow’s fate since the end of Season 5 of Thrones. Book and TV show fans both find themselves in unknown territory. Season 6 is the first time the show will move in front of the books, so there are not even any spoilers online to get an idea of what will happen. All there is available is the rumor mill, including the idea that Melisandre will bring Jon back from the dead.

So far, the showrunners and Kit Harington have said that Jon is dead. It looks like the latest Game of Thrones trailer confirms this. It also hints that many more could face the same fate.

Set in the Hall of Faces in Bravos, Screen Rant describes how familiar Game of Thrones faces are seen as voiceovers share some of their most memorable lines. Most of the faces are of Stark characters, including Ned and Catelyn, but Joffrey Baratheon is also included. It then leads to the face that everyone is questioning; Jon Snow.

It seems to indicate that Jon is definitely dead, and he will not make a return like fans expect. Previous Thrones filming sightings have suggested that Jon will be resurrected from the dead, ending his commitment to the Night’s Watch and giving him the chance to go back home to Winterfell. So much of the storyline has been around his character, it does not make sense to kill him off permanently.

The trailer does not stop with Jon’s face and voiceover. It goes on to a shot of Tyrion Lannister’s face, and then other well-known characters make appearances, including Sansa, Arya, and Cersei Lannister.

There are numerous Game of Thrones Season 6 theories spreading on social media now. Some believe that it hints that nobody is safe; something that fans have known ever since the execution of Ned Stark back in Season 1. Others hint that all characters will meet their end by the end of Season 6, or at least by the end of the show. As Tyrion is the main focus after Jon, many wonder whether he will finally meet his end; something that fans have feared for some time since he tends to be placed in fight or die situations.

Most importantly, the Thrones trailer does leave out some of the most hated characters. Ramsey Bolton was not visible in the Hall of Faces, suggesting that he will still live through the season and fight to the end. The trailer could be a red herring, though, and Ramsey could be the one to meet his fate; after all, the bad guys have to die at some point, right?

As with every new trailer for the show based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, nothing has been given away for the upcoming season, which premieres on April 24. Fans know that Bran Stark will come back, but not the capacity or how his return will link with other storylines. They also know from episode stills last week that Arya, Sansa, Theon, Yara, and Ramsey will all return. Older storylines will be revisited, and current storylines will continue.

Huffington Post says that the recent trailer suggests that Jon Snow is definitely dead. However, it also means that other characters are going to meet their end during the season, and important characters, too. Will Game of Thrones lose all its main characters in Season 6?
