Mama June Of Honey Boo Boo Fame Undergoes Controversial Procedure On Neck

Mama June, mother to former reality show star Honey Boo Boo, shared a recent weight loss procedure with Inside Edition and allowed cameras to capture the ordeal as she attempted to freeze off the fat cells on her neck following a large weight loss.

June says she’s dropped 150 pounds, but was left with extra fat around her neck, which her kids call a “gobble gobble,” and turned to a somewhat controversial procedure called “cool sculpting” that freezes off extra weight. The method involves using a numbing cream first, then a tool which is strapped to the area.

“Fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin or blood vessels or nerves so this technology gets the temperature down just far [enough] so that the fat dies but nothing else is affected,” said Dr. Sheila Nazarian.

While the procedure took a while to gain FDA clearance for use on the body, it has been highly recommended by people who haven’t had luck with any other weight loss methods; even Dr. Nazarian has had it done on her abdomen. Most patients say it takes several weeks to notice the results as it works gradually.

“I’m 25 years old, and I’ve always had a ‘pooch’ in my lower abdomen. I’m a woman, so feeling that pooch isn’t a good feeling at all. I always just wondered what was out there,” said Lisa Pitonyak, a nurse who had the procedure done several years ago.

The procedure doesn’t require surgery and has gained popularity due to its non-invasive nature; however, June was reported last month to have joined the reality show Botched. It’s unclear what she’ll have done on the show.

June and her family have been out of the spotlight for a while now, since Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled from the TLC lineup amid rumors that June was involved with a man who had a past of sexual abuse. She was also still with Sugar Bear, the man she has one child with who appeared on the show with the family, but they began having problems and stories began to circulate around the Web that he was unfaithful.

“They’re definitely not together now. There was no saving that relationship after everything they had been through,” a source said.

The couple attended Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars recently, but were reportedly unsuccessful in repairing their relationship.

“Me and Sugar’s been in a relationship for a little over 11 years, and it’s in serious trouble, because Sugar’s been cheating, and I’m hoping to get some answers. My daughter, Alana, found proof and that’s what really devastated me!” June said.

June announced recently that the family will be returning to television soon, but didn’t give details as to when or where. She did say, however, that it will be another reality situation because that’s the only sort of television they want to do.

“OK for everyone it was asked if we are going to be back on TV, the answer is yes and it will be very soon. It will not be [on the] TLC network but it will be announced as we were told with people on Tuesday. I will be able to get out more details soon but we are excited as it will air starting in December. But it will not be [a] Here Comes Honey Boo Boo kind of thing, but it will be reality TV and it will be real and unscripted like we have always ever been. That’s the only kind of TV we believe in and we want you all to see the true side of all of us,” Mama June said.
