Sofia Vergara Tops List Of Highest Paid Actresses On Television
Sofia Vergara is having a pretty good year–she celebrated turning 40 with a week-long getaway to Mexico where she got engaged to longtime boyfriend Nick Loeb, and now she has been named the top-paid television actress in a new list released by Forbes.
All told, Forbes put the Colombian actresses’ earning power at $19 million in revenue between May 2011 and May 2012. Though she is star of the ABC hit Modern Family, which draws 12 million viewers each week, Vergara is earning more than just her TV show paycheck. She has a number of endorsements and licensing deals, Forbes reported, and the latin media company she founded in 1996 earned $27 million in revenue.
The television star might be the best Latin crossover since Desi Arnez, Forbes noted, and she brings that appeal to Modern Family without sacrificing her roots.
The farmer’s daughter from Barranquilla, Colombia, said she is proud of how she maintains her cultural identity as she blossomed into a mega star in America.
“The truth is out that we’re in this country and we’re taking over,” Sofia Vergara told Forbes. “To see people paying attention to the cultural changes … is fantastic.”
She has unmatched appeal with Hispanics and a Q-score twice as high as the average celebrity. Her endorsement deals in the past year alone–which include both English and Spanish spots–total $12 million, Forbes reported. A deal with KMart to sell her self-named clothing line nets Sofia Vergara $7 million, Fox News reported.
Sofia Vergara just beat out Kim Kardashian for the top spot. The not-quite-actress pulled in roughly $18 million during a year in which her family signed a $30 million contract to renew their television show with E!. Eva Longoria was third on the list with $15 million.
Kim Kardashian actually has a lot in common with Sofia Vergara, Forbes noted. Both lent their names to major endorsement deals, both are mainstays of the tabloid papers and both have amassed an army of social media followers: Kim’s twitter feed has 15 million followers while Sofia has 2.4 million plus a popular YouTube channel that gives insights into her private life.
