Joey Feek Cancer Update: Joey And Rory Spend What Is Likely Their Last Valentine’s Day Together

For Joey and Rory Feek, Valentine’s Day wasn’t about the flowers, the candy, or the romantic candle-light dinners — it wasn’t about cards and gifts. It was about love and being together despite their heartbreaking circumstances.

Joey Feek is currently confined to her hospice bed as she continues to battle terminal cancer, but that didn’t stop Rory from making this Valentine’s Day one she will never forget.

Earlier this week, Rory took to his blog, This Life I Live, to share his plans for his “bride.” He first recalled their very first date, which just so happened to be on Valentine’s Day 2002. Joey was working at the Tennessee Equine Hospital at the time and invited Rory to attend their Valentine’s Day party as her date.

“That night must’ve gone pretty well… because two months later we were engaged and two months after that, Joey and I were married,” Rory wrote in the post titled “the master plan.”

In an ideal world, Rory said he would love to be spending the holiday with his wife at their farmhouse in Tennessee. He said he would have loved to have cooked Joey one of her favorite meals — rib-eyes on the campfire — while they sipped on red wine and celebrated their 14th Valentine’s Day together. However, because of Joey’s current condition, Rory had to modify his plans.

“Neither Joey, nor I, have laid eyes on our farmhouse back in Tennessee since the middle of October,” Rory wrote. “On top of that, Joey’s illness hasn’t allowed her to be able to eat much of anything for some time now and she sleeps most of the days and nights away. So my hope this year instead is to hold her hand and take her on a ‘virtual’ walk down memory lane together… with pictures and videos on my laptop.”

“I want to take her back to where our lives first began together, and relive this beautiful journey that God has taken us on… from that first song she heard me sing at the Bluebird cafe, to the last one we sang together as we stood on stage and took our final bow… to the songs that she will leave behind here on earth and the ones she will soon sing for eternity to our sweet Lord in that heavenly choir up yonder. A trip down memory lane together… That, and I’m hoping for a few soft kisses. The passion for each other that Joey and I once had has been replaced by the sweetest, gentlest kisses. I live for those kisses. They are enough.”

Rory planned the whole night, and judging from the photo he shared on their Facebook page, Valentine’s Day for the Feek’s was exactly what he had hoped for.

Rory captioned the heartwarming photo that showed the couple sharing a Valentine’s Day kiss, by saying, “happy Valentine’s Day my love.”

Rory had completed their walk down memory lane by giving Joey candy and flowers, fixing her dinner, and even buying her a beautiful corsage to wear on their date. Rory hoped to provide one day where Joey could remember all the good times they have shared over the past 14 years and maybe forget that she is slowly dying from cancer.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Joey Feek first diagnosed with cancer in May 2014 when the doctors discovered that she had stage 4 cervical cancer. At the time, her doctors recommended she undergo a radical hysterectomy and then rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Joey endured the treatment for over a year before she finally decided to say enough is enough. In October 2015, Joey made the heartbreaking decision to stop treatment and return to her home in hospice care.
