Jeb Bush Finally Gets His Voice As Donald Trump Attacks George Bush During GOP Debate

For one of the first times in the presidential race, Jeb Bush received resounding applause as he took on Donald Trump during the GOP debate. Bush, typically more timid on the stage, was unwavering as he exclaimed he was “sick and tired” of Barack Obama and Donald Trump attacking his family. The outburst came as Trump blasted the Bush family for “lying” about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and for George Bush’s handling of the World Trade Center attack.

Jeb responded to Trump by noting that his father, former president George H.W. Bush, is the “greatest man alive in my mind” and that he won the lottery by being born to the strongest woman in the world, his mother Barbara Bush. He says while Trump wants to attack his brother George W. Bush over poor intelligence he received regarding Iraq, he notes that Trump was spending his time working on reality television shows.

The Daily Mail reports that things heated up significantly during the last GOP debate as Donald Trump attempted to discredit Jeb Bush by calling out the Bush family as liars. Trump began the attack on Jeb after the business mogul was asked if he still believes that George W. Bush should have been impeached following the attack on the World Trade Center. Trump says “call it what you like” but they lied.

“I want to tell you, they lied, they said there were weapons of mass destruction, there were none and they knew there were none. There were no weapons of mass destruction.”

After Trump called the Bush family liars, Jeb was given an opportunity to speak at which point he noted that his father, George H.W. Bush, is the “greatest man alive” and that his brother was working hard to secure America while Donald Trump was working in reality television.

“So here’s the deal. I’m sick and tired of Barack Obama blaming my brother for all of the problems that he’s had. And frankly, I could care less about the insults that Donald Trump gives to me. It’s blood sport for him, he enjoys it and I’m glad he’s happy about it. I am sick and tired of him going after my family. My dad is the greatest man alive in my mind. While Donald Trump was building a reality TV show, my brother was building a security apparatus to keep us safe and I’m proud of what he did.”

Trump interjected that “the World Trade Center came down during your brother’s reign, that is not keeping us safe” as Jeb took up for his brother. The crowd at the GOP was not impressed with Trump’s attack on both former presidents, and began booing the businessman loudly. However, when Jeb called his father the “greatest man alive in my mind” everyone was heard loudly cheering. Jeb then went on to point out that Trump has attacked his mother and that in his opinion he won the lottery by being born to such a strong woman.

“He had the gall to go after my mother. I won the lottery when I was born 63 years ago and looked up and saw my mom, my mom is the strongest woman I know.”

Trump responded by noting that maybe Barbara Bush should be running instead of Jeb. You can watch the full exchange between presidential candidates Donald Trump and Jeb Bush below.

Not to be outdone by Jeb Bush promoting his love of his father George H.W. Bush, Trump took to Twitter following the debate to say he misses his father and to give him a little love.

Following the debate, Jeb Bush was in high spirits noting that he thinks he got under Trump’s skin and that he exposed some of the flaws in his candidacy.

What do you think about Donald Trump’s attack on the Bush family during the GOP debate? Was the attack a smart move considering the negative response by the debate audience? Did the move by Trump give Jeb Bush a louder voice in the upcoming South Carolina caucuses? Could the attack have been a calculated move to provide Jeb Bush with more momentum and votes going into the caucuses in a bid to take away votes from candidates such as Cruz and Rubio that Trump sees as more of a threat?
