Outlander fans can rest at ease knowing that the premiere of the second season of the hit time travelling series is only a few months away. Starz recently announced the premiere date on a brand new promo poster for the upcoming season. Along with the exciting announcement, the poster stunned fans with a look at Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in their new French costumes.
According to TV Line, the new poster features Claire and Jamie showing off their new wardrobe as the pair heads to France in Season 2. The image includes Jamie in his fancy French attire while Claire leads him in a striking red dress. The two are heading up a set of stairs in Versailles in the photo.
“Vive les Fraser,” the poster is captioned, which translated means “Long live the Frasers.”
Claire’s red dress is one of the many elements that fans have been looking forward to in the new season. In the books, Claire’s wears the iconic dress when she goes to meet up with France’s King, Louis XV. Based on the amazing poster art, her appearance in red should cause just as much of a stir on the show as it did in the books, especially with Jamie.
Meanwhile, according to E! Online, the upcoming season is an adaptation of the second book in the bestselling series by Diana Gabaldon, titled Dragonfly in Amber. While Claire and Jamie settle into their new home in Paris, the couple’s main goal is to prevent the failure of the Jacobite rebellion. In so doing, the two will come face to face with a number of new challenges, all the while juggling Claire’s pregnancy and Jamie’s haunting past.
For Jamie, this includes the struggles he faced during his imprisonment last season and subsequent abuse at the hands of Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall. While Jamie’s past demons continue to haunt him, Claire is expected to help him deal with his troubles while the two work on their greater goal of re-writing history.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new season will begin with Claire and Jamie teaming up with Prince Charles Stuart to prevent to Battle of Culloden. However, in order to accomplish their mission, Claire and Jamie need to infiltrate the high society in France, where the political game presents a number of dangerous challenges.
To be sure, Paris is not the same as Scotland, and it will be interesting to see how Jamie and Claire adjust to their new situation. Whether or not the two will be able to accomplish their mission while keeping their relationship in tact is yet to be seen.
In addition to the new time period, the second season of Outlander will also introduce a number of exciting new characters. Most notably, this includes the likes of Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna, who will be played by Sophie Skelton.
Apart from Brianna, fans will be introduced to a number of different characters from the second book. This includes Roger (Richard Rankin), Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber), Mother Hildegarde (Frances De La Tour), Jared Fraser (Robert Cavanah), and Alex Randall (Laurence Dobiesz).
Of course, Heughan and Balfe will be back in action as the lead characters while Tobias Menzies is set to reprise his role as Black Jack Randall and Frank Randall, Claire’s husband from the future. The second season of Outlander is produced by Ronald D. Moore, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Maril Davis, Ira Steven Behr, Anne Kenney, and Toni Graphia.
The highly anticipated second season of Outlander will be comprised of 13 episodes and is set to premiere on April 9 on Starz.
