?Bill Murray Allegedly Throws Fans’ Cell Phones From Rooftop At Vesuvio Lounge, Just Before Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament

Bill Murray can be known for his outlandish public stunts, and his name has been floating around in the headlines lately for allegedly throwing cell phones off of a rooftop in Los Angeles, Sky News reports. While on a rooftop terrace of a restaurant Thursday night, comedian Bill Murray was reportedly approached by a couple of fans who wanted to take his picture, although it seems they didn’t get the 65-year-old’s permission before doing so, trying to snap a covert shot of him. Murray proceeded to yank the cell phones out of their hands and toss them off the roof, according to the report.

Actor Bill Murray was attending a party at the Vesuvio lounge in Carmel, an upmarket seaside resort, which was hosted by Justin Timberlake. After seeing flashes from camera phones taking pictures, he allegedly threw two phones off the roof, with a third cell phone safely landing on a cushion. According to TMZ, the fans were only 10 feet away from him when they were taking the pictures, and the actor was sober, says restaurant owner Scott Pepe. They were on the second story of the building.

Carmel-by-the-Sea Police Commander Paul Tomasi says that Bill Murray has “acknowledged that he was there and said he is willing to replace the property that was damaged.”

The Caddyshack actor was at the Vesuvio rooftop lounge for the annual Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament, and Bill is participating in the game this year. The rooftop lounge is a spot where celebrities usually go when attending the event. The authorities were called and arrived at the scene, but as soon as they did, Bill Murray was already gone. On Friday, cops caught up with him and Murray stated that he would pay for the damages, and the owners of the phones agreed, pressing no charges against the actor. Pepe, however, has said that the incident has caused him to make some policy changes. No cell phones and no cameras will be allowed at the Vesuvio lounge, which should please any celebrity who visits the lounge in the future.

Bill Murray doesn’t have a manager, nor does he have an agent, so when something like this happens, he has to be contacted through an automated number. The actor has been known to like his privacy, which should explain the alleged rash reaction of launching cellular devices from a rooftop. But according to Robert Schnakenberg, self-styled author and raconteur from Brooklyn, Bill decided to get rid of his personal team due to their constant need to contact him.

“In 2000, he fired his agents – reportedly for calling him on the phone too often – and replaced them with an automated 800 number. Filmmakers who wish to pitch projects to Murray must leave a message on his voice mailbox, which he rarely checks. When he is interested in a script, Murray demands that it be faxed to him care of his local office supply store.”

Bill Murray should be getting back to his comedic antics, and away from public scrutiny, when he appears in the Ghostbusters reboot coming out later this year. Bill Murray starred in the original 1984 comedy classic, along with with Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, playing the role of Dr. Peter Venkman. Murray and the cast reprised their roles in the 1989 sequel Ghostbusters II. Murray had previously stated that any involvement in this new Ghostbusters reboot was simply “crazy talk,” when speaking with David Letterman.

Sony’s Ghostbusters reboot, directed by Paul Feig, stars Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Michael K. Williams, and Neil Casey, and opens in theaters on July 22, 2016.
