Lady Gaga is going plastic fantastic with her latest charity efforts.
According to a new report by the Huffington Post, legendary toy makers Mattel just announced that they’re planning to create a limited edition doll based on Gaga’s likeness as part of the company’s popular Monster High doll collection.
The site is reporting that the doll, which is expected to be released this fall, will share Gaga’s often eccentric likeness and unique style and is actually being designed by the “Applause” singer and her sister, uber-talented costume designer Natali Germanotta.
Germanotta recently spoke out about the upcoming doll, of which all profits will go to benefit Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, in a new interview with Refinary29. Gaga’s sister got candid about what inspired the Monster High toy and admitted that “the doll represents showing your unique self and being the most vulnerable you.”
“Through that, within the design and the aesthetic, and the doll itself, it really puts forward that image to the young kids that will be seeing it and interacting with it,” Germanotta, who has designed some of Lady Gaga’s most iconic on and off-stage looks, told the site.
“I think it is really important to be honest with yourself and your friends. There is really no better way to live. It can sometimes be scary, but at the same time it is very fulfilling,” Gaga’s sister added.
While all profits from the sales of Gaga’s Monster High doll will be donated to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, the big doll announcement also coincides with the #KindMonsters movement, which Gaga created to help her fans to do good in the world.
“Monster High and the Born This Way Foundation are encouraging fans to commit to contributing to a kinder, more accepting, and braver world,” Nicole Germanotta told Refinary29 of Lady Gaga’s newest charity venture. “By participating, people will be entered in a chance to win one of the first 100 dolls [when they’re released].”
“I could not be more excited to be working with my sister, Mattel, and the Born This Way Foundation. It has been such an amazing experience already,” Nicole said, confessing, “the partnership with Monster High came to be around October , and it was mostly to support young people and elevate kindness, bravery, and acceptance.”
Although Gaga has so far kept quiet regarding her newest venture on social media, The Born This Way Foundation took to Twitter to announce that Gaga’s foundation is “so excited for our partnership with @MonsterHigh to promote kindness!” adding the hashtag “#KindMonsters.”
Lady Gaga’s fans have also taken to the social media site to express their excitement over the upcoming Monster High doll, which is set for release later this year.
Lady Gaga fan @LabOfHookers took to Twitter on February 12 to post a snap from what appeared to be the big Gaga/Mattel announcement, which revealed Gaga’s charity, the Born This Way Foundation, and Monster High’s inspirational mission statement.
“I pledge to build a kinder, more accepting and braver world. A world where individuality is celebrated online, offline and through the freedoms of play,” the statement read. “A world that offers eternal love, not judgement, to those who are brave enough to be themselves. A world with infinite and magnificent possibilities.”
