Jessa Duggar Seewald Accused Of Choosing ‘Immodest’ Clothing For Baby [Photo]

Jessa Duggar Seewald and Ben Seewald’s baby photos haven’t faced the same level of scrutiny as those shared by Jill Duggar Dillard and Derick Dillard — until now. Jessa and Ben have managed to post dozens of photos and videos of Spurgeon Elliot Seewald without stirring up controversy, but one concerned Duggar fan has finally found a reason to criticize a picture of the baby. According to the sheriff of the baby fashion police, Jessa and Ben recently shared a photo of their baby wearing an “immodest” outfit.

Jessa Duggar dressed Spurgeon up in a white onesie, plaid shirt, and gray socks for a recent hospital visit, and Ben Seewald shared a photo of the look on his Instagram page. According to the Hollywood Gossip, one of Ben’s very concerned followers complained about the outfit that Jessa Duggar chose for Spurgeon. Check out the photo below and see if you can spot the reason why the baby photo is being criticized.

Are you stumped? Here’s the answer: Jessa Duggar is letting her baby show too much leg.

Most of Ben Seewald’s Instagram followers seemed to agree that the photo above is simply adorable — they commented on how “stinkin cute” Spurgeon’s “chubby thighs” and “baby leg rolls” are. However, one of Jessa and Ben’s fans was upset to see that the baby wasn’t following Michelle Duggar’s strict rules about dressing modestly.

“Respect your son’s modesty plz,” the commenter wrote.

After a few of Ben Seewald’s followers responded by saying that they see nothing wrong with a baby wearing a onesie without pants, the commenter explained her reasoning.

“I’m not saying it’s wrong, and yes I realize he’s a baby and ‘most’ people post pictures of their kids without pants,” The commenter wrote.

She went on to explain that she thinks that Spurgeon might find the photo embarrassing in the future if he grows up being encouraged to adhere to the Duggar family’s ultra-modest dress code.

“However I also know that this is a modest family. Its a value of theirs. He is a baby now but one day he will be grown and due to his family he may still have these pictures circulating on the internet when he is 23. I was thinking of how HE would feel, having been (and here I make an assumption that could be wrong) raised to be modest but to have anyone be able to view this. It was meant to be a friendly reminder NOT criticism or ‘judgement’. I’m sorry if it came off that way. I think they’re good parents, I was just trying to give a little guidance. My apologies to Ben and Jessa if I’ve offended you. God bless.”

Weirdly enough, Anna Duggar has also been criticized for dressing a baby immodestly. Little Meredith actually had her legs completely covered up in a much-discussed Instagram photo, but some Duggar fans claimed that her tiny blue jeans were inappropriate for the child of a modest mom.

Most of Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald’s fans who responded to the modesty-obsessed Instagram commenter revealed that they don’t agree with her assessment of the photo, and they even accused the critic of sexualizing children. This is something that Michelle Duggar has actually done in the past by saying that she always makes sure that her young children are covered up from their necks to below their knees. In a TLC blog post, Michelle explained why she believes that the top portions of legs shouldn’t be exposed.

“God talks about the thigh being uncovered, and how that’s nakedness and shame,” Michelle wrote. “And so in our dress — whether we’re doing activities that require us to climb, ride a horse, bike, swim, whatever — we just want to keep the thighs and torso covered; we don’t want to play peekaboo so that there’s a visual element that might defraud someone.”

Michelle Duggar has said that she makes her daughters wear pantaloons or leggings underneath their skirts, and she admits that her modesty rules confuse the really young girls because they don’t understand why they’re required to keep their legs covered up. It’s unclear whether Michelle is as strict when it comes to what boys and babies are allowed to wear, but even if she is, this might not matter to Jessa Duggar — she no longer has to follow her parents’ rules now that she’s married.

This isn’t the first time Jessa Duggar has been criticized by Duggar fans who think that she should still be following her parents’ dress code. According to SheKnows, Jessa was slammed for wearing tight-fitting tops when she was pregnant with Spurgeon. Michelle discourages her daughters from wearing clingy clothes, but Jessa can be seen rocking a top that’s so tight that her belly button is visible in the photo below.

At least Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald can take comfort in knowing that their baby photos aren’t being as harshly criticized as Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard’s photos of Israel. In the Instagram snapshot below, Israel can be seen wearing an outfit that’s very similar to Spurgeon’s “immodest” onesie and shirt. However, Jill and Derick aren’t being slammed for letting Israel rock the pants-less look. According to Starpulse, their controversy-causing baby pictures appear to show bruises on Israel’s eye and thigh. Jill and Derick have also been criticized for sharing photos of a tightly-swaddled Israel lying on a bed and crying.

What do you think of Jessa Duggar and Jill Duggar’s wardrobe choices for their sons? If the girls had daughters, do you think they would keep their little girls’ legs covered up?
