During a promo in 2011, CM Punk accused Vince McMahon and Triple H of having a “bodybuilder fetish” and pushing WWE superstars because of their size. Whether Punk was right or not, there are examples that can be found as true of that theory. The Great Khali, Batista, John Cena, Triple H, Goldberg, the Big Show, and Kevin Nash are popular ones that come to mind.
For Batista, HHH, and Cena, they had charisma and mic skills to back up their size. Their size and look only helped their case to be on top. For Khali and Goldberg, they didn’t have top-notch wrestling skills. McMahon liked their size, which was the main reason for them getting over with the WWE Universe, and WCW for Goldberg’s case.
The next “big thing” is in the WWE, and his name is Braun Strowman. He never even debuted in WWE NXT. Strowman went up to the main roster and teamed up with Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt Family. So far, Strowman is being made to look strong, which reportedly is all the doing of Vince McMahon. He likes Strowman and thinks he’ll be a top star in the company.
There’s just one problem with that. Braun Strowman hasn’t showed any great wrestling talent. He moves around pretty well for a big guy, but that’s it. Is the Wyatt’s Black Sheep on his way to stardom? According to WrestleZone.com and PWInsider.com, Braun Strowman is a personal project of Vince McMahon, and he could get a major role at WrestleMania 32.
“PWInsider.com is reporting that Strowman is improving, and it’s mostly evident when he works out. According to multiple PWInsider sources, Strowman is a lot better than what we’ve seen on WWE TV and he can do a lot more in the ring than what we’ve seen from him so far. Apparently Strowman’s in-ring skills are being saved for a bigger stage, likely WrestleMania.
“We’ve noted in the past how Vince McMahon sees Braun as one of his personal ‘projects,’ and wants to push him as a top guy in WWE. Everything we see from Strowman comes straight from Vince McMahon, down to how he’s been presented, to the way he works, the way he picks opponents up, the way he stumbles around and sometimes takes bumps. These are all reportedly ‘edicts’ from Vince McMahon.”
The report goes on to say that WWE officials have a long-term plan for Strowman. It could involve Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in August. This all began when the rumor of Strowman vs. Undertaker was being rumored for WrestleMania 32. Immediately, the IWC began to go into “crisis mode.” There aren’t many that want to see that match.
Therefore, the WWE reportedly listened to the reaction of the fans. That won’t stop WWE officials from booking Strowman in a “big” match at WWE Fast Lane. He will most-likely take on Kane, the Big Show, or Mark Henry. WWE wants to make Strowman the next Big Show, so it only makes sense for him to defeat all of the giants.
If the WWE wants to capitalize on Strowman, a fatal-4-way with all four of those men may be a good way to do it. He’d have a chance to dominate all three men while looking strong at the same time. It’s not easy to force someone down the WWE Universe’s throat, which they have felt with Batista two years ago and Roman Reigns now. Allow Strowman to organically grow with WWE fans, while being a monster heel in the process.
