Kia Proctor: Cam Newton’s Girlfriend And Their Son Slide Into The Spotlight At Super Bowl 50

Kia Proctor may be dating one of the most popular and camera-friendly men in the NFL, but Cam Newton’s longtime girlfriend doesn’t seem to mind taking a place outside the spotlight herself.

Proctor has been taking a quiet role during the close to three years they have been dating, staying out of the pubic eye despite something of a famous past. Instead she has let Cam, one of the NFL’s most popular but also most polarizing players, take the spotlight.

Cam Newton and Kia Proctor have dated since 2013, when they reportedly met at the Kentucky Derby. Proctor was already famous in some circles at that point, working as a stripper under the name Hazel at the famed Washington DC Stadium Club.

Since starting to date Cam Newton, she has given up stripping and instead focuses on modeling. Kia Proctor’s Instagram page contains a number of her glamour shots.

The couple welcomed their first child on Christmas Eve last year, a son named Chosen. It was a life-changing moment for Cam Newton, and his teammates noticed the change immediately.

“He’s kind of got a glow,” Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert told the Charlotte Observer. “You can see it. You can see something’s different about him and obviously that’s it.

“I notice that he’s walking around with a much bigger smile and he’s a little bit more exuberant than anybody would be this time of year on a Thursday.”

But true to form, Cam Newton decided to keep his family out of the public eye. He issued only a brief statement when Chosen was born, noting that the family wanted privacy.

“My longtime girlfriend and I were extremely blessed to have a son last week. Our family is excited, and thank you all for the well wishes!” he wrote on Twitter before the new year. “I’ve been quiet about this because I didn’t want to create a distraction for my team and appreciate the privacy in this joyous time.”

Though Cam Newton keeps mostly quiet about girlfriend Kia Proctor and their son Chosen, at Super Bowl week he did open up a bit about being a father. In a light-hearted exchanged with reporters, Cam implied that his son is following along in dad’s footsteps as a physical phenom, walking at just one month old.

“I was gonna bring little Chosen with me, but I didn’t think he could walk down the steps yet,” Newton said. “He’s already walking if you ain’t know — he’s a month old.”

Cam also made reference to his family on the field. After scoring a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons on December 27, Cam cradled the football as if it were a baby. Unfortunately for Cam and the Panthers, that was the only touchdown they would score that day in what turned out to be a 20-13 loss. That game was the only blemish on the otherwise perfect record for the Panthers.

But all eyes will be on Kia Proctor at Super Bowl 50. The sideline cameras are likely to find Cam Newton’s girlfriend, more than likely if he scores and almost assuredly if the Panthers win and Newton is celebrating on the field afterward. There is even speculation that Newton may use the big moment to propose to his longtime girlfriend.

The betting site OddShark has a prop bet for anyone willing to put money on Cam’s possible engagement:

“The one thing that is bigger than sports is love, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bet on it. Newton and his girlfriend recently welcomed a baby boy into the world and Cam taking the plunge into the married life after the game is listed at +1200. Newton would join the likes of that guy from Boise State that proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend after the Fiesta Bowl.”

While it’s difficult to say if he’ll leave Sunday with a Super Bowl ring (or an engagement ring), Cam Newton and girlfriend Kia Proctor will certainly see a lot of spotlight.
