Selena Gomez Ready To Give Up Social Media After Justin Bieber Drama

Selena Gomez is revealing that she may disappear from social media in the not too distant future.

Gomez, who has more than 38 million Twitter followers, made a surprising admission during her March cover shoot with W Magazine, in which she confessed that she’s considering cleansing herself of all social media in the next few years.

“I’m utilising social media right now because of my age and because, to be honest, everybody else in the world was talking about me, so I wanted a f***ing say,” Selena candidly confessed to W Magazine.

“I honestly had to,” Selena continued, adding that she never expected her life “to be as public” and as full of media attention as it is now. “Is this going to destroy me or make me? I still have to make that choice on a daily basis,” Gomez continued of her social media presence. She then revealed, “In a few years. I’ll give all of it up.”

Gomez’s somewhat surprising social media confession comes after Selena revealed to the site that she’s struggled with the intense attention she receives over her former romance with Justin Bieber.

“At first I didn’t care,” Gomez admitted to the magazine of the extreme interest in her personal life that hit when she began dating Bieber in 2010. “To me it was: I’m 18, I have a boyfriend, we look cute together, we like that,” Selena revealed, “Then I got my heart broken and I cared. Because people had no idea what was going on, but everywhere it was a million different things.”

“I was kind of in a corner, banging my head against the wall,” Selena Gomez confessed about the crazy levels of paparazzi and media attention that surrounded her four year relationship with Justin, adding that she “didn’t know where to go” to avoid scrutiny.

While it sounds like fans may have a few good years left to enjoy Selena Gomez’s social media posts, like the sweet photo she shared of herself hanging out with close friend Taylor Swift on January 16, this isn’t the first time Selena Gomez has admitted that social media often leaves her a bit confused.

Speaking out about Twitter during an August 2015 interview with BBC Radio 1‘s Scott Mills, Gomez was quizzed about her insanely popular social media accounts, which all boast tens of millions of followers, and she admitted that she doesn’t “understand all of that sometimes.”

“I think about things very realistically, because I feel like some of those accounts probably don’t even actually exist,” Gomez said. “I also get very weird about that stuff. I’m like, ‘Well, why isn’t like everybody selling 40 million albums?'”

Selena also revealed her approach to posting on her Twitter and Instagram pages, telling the radio host that she tries to just “be real” when she shows off her life to her millions of fans and even teased that the best thing to do is to show “the dirty stuff and the fun stuff.”

One person Selena Gomez probably won’t be clicking the follow button for anytime soon, though? Miley Cyrus.

In the same W Magazine interview, Gomez addressed her alleged feud with her fellow former Disney star, revealing that she wouldn’t exactly like to be doing what Cyrus is right now. “Obviously, she wouldn’t want to be doing what I’m doing, and I wouldn’t want to be doing what she’s doing,” Gomez said, “But I’m a fan of her music… I don’t know if she’d say that about me.”

Do you think Selena Gomez will really retire from social media in the next few years?
