Fans can watch the Mali vs. DR Congo football match live online and see which team is about to take home the 2016 African Nations Championship final.

The two nations will square off in the tournament’s final game, held Sunday at 18:30 local time from Kigali, Rwanda.

Mali reached the final thanks to a 1-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the semifinal, while DR Congo defeated Guinea 5-4 on penalty kicks.

Mali was able to advance to the the 2016 African Nations Championship final thanks to a timely substitution. Backup Yves Bissouma came into the game and netted the game-winning goal just two minutes from time, sending the traditionally strong Cote d’Ivoire team home in the semifinals.

Fans who watch the Mali vs. DR Congo football match live online will see a Mali team playing beyond its expectations. Head coach Djibril Drame told CAF Online that their only set goal was to win the group stage, and everything after that has been taken one game at a time.

“Our first objective was to go past the group stage. Then it was match after match, and we are not changing that. We will continue working hard. We know our opponent (DR Congo) and we respect them. We will learn from this match (against Cote d’Ivoire),” he said.

“The final is a different match. Saying DR Congo is the favourite will be too much because the final is not like any other match. We shall see what happens on Sunday.”

As CAF Online noted, Mali played a strong match even though the team missed a penalty in the first half. They also weathered an early attack from the Ivorians and later seized control, the report noted.

“It was the Ivorians who took the game to the Malians in the opening minutes,” the report read. “Les Elephants almost broke the deadlock on nine minutes when Essis Aka’s shot bounced off the post with Mali goalie Djigui Diarra completely beaten.

“The pendulum then swung the direction of the Malians and Sekou Koita forced a superb save from Ivorian goalie Badra Ali Sangare on 27 minutes.”

DR Congo head coach Florent Ibenge said he talked to his team after Guinea scored the tying goal, telling them that it was not over yet. Ibenge noted that his team planned to go on the attack in the first half, taking advantage of Guinea’s tired legs, but noted it was a late loss of concentration that allowed Guinea to score the tying goal.

“Let’s do what have been doing at training,” Ibenge said he told his players (via CAF Online). “They had to focus on the placing the ball during penalties and keep the match going as we have planned.

“Guinea is a very dynamic team, and are sometimes referred to as the ‘Brazil of Africa’. All we had to do was to cut their play.”

But Ibenge said his team came into the match with plenty of momentum, and couldn’t be stopped.

“We won our first two matches and it gave us courage. Also we have players from TP Mazembe, who won the CAF Champions League and went to the FIFA Club World Cup,” he said. “Also, we had some players who were at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, where we won bronze. So we have players who have the potential to go as far as we can.”
