Fans that have been anticipating Zayn Malik’s first solo concert may finally have their dreams come true.
While many Zayn Malik fans were obsessed with his relationship status with Gigi Hadid in early February, Zayn may have been planning his first solo performance post-One Direction.
According to a February 3 report from People, Zayn Malik is tired of teasing fans about Gigi Hadid — and he has officially declared she is his girlfriend. The way Zayn Malik confirmed this fact was by not denying Gigi Hadid was his girlfriend when the interviewer at Zach Sang and The Gang called her that.
However, even more exciting to fans is the idea that Zayn Malik has finally broken free of his One Direction career and is now (possibly) performing solo in 2016.
On the website TiqIQ, it appears that Zayn Malik will definitely perform in Carson, California, at the StubHub Center on Saturday, May 14. The event is listed as KIIS FM’s annual Wango Tango concert, and tickets to see Zayn Malik start at $148.
Regardless, at first, there appeared to be a chance that Zayn Malik was not going to perform after all. According to At 40, on Twitter, a #ZaynWangoTango campaign began around January 28 when Ryan Seacrest stated on his radio show that Zayn Malik was going to be at Wango Tango if “fans say ‘Zayn Malik at Wango Tango’ three times, it’ll happen.”
Despite this, some fans were skeptical about Zayn Malik’s first performance being at KIIS’ Wango Tango festival. Some of the suspicion comes from Ryan Seacrest’s tweets from January 28 that include “I haven’t talked to Zayn yet but if you read this @zaynmalik, just pencil in May 14 thx #ZaynWangoTango.”
In order to quell the lack of trust that Zayn Malik fans were feeling, Ryan Seacrest interviewed Zayn on January 29, according to Gossip Cop. When Seacrest asked Zayn Malik about performing at Wango Tango, Zayn clearly stated “Yeah, I’m down.”
Although this seems like a confirmation, Zayn Malik has not officially confirmed that he will perform at Wango Tango.
Nevertheless, is it possible that Zayn Malik will end up canceling his Wango Tango gig? After all, TV3 notes on February 1 that Zayn Malik has canceled interviews with less than a 45-minute’s notice.
Zayn Malik allegedly “pulled out of a scheduled appearance on BBC Radio One’s Greg James Show at the very last minute” and “[Zayn Malik cancelled] Graham Norton Show last [on January 28] with his representative citing ‘scheduling issues.'”
About the cancellations, Piers Morgan of Good Morning Britain stated that he had interviewed Zayn Malik before and found him to be overall unprofessional.
Regarding his opinion of Zayn Malik, Sugarscape quotes Piers Morgan stating around February 2 that, during interviews with Morgan, Zayn was “just surly the entire time. I thought, ‘If you don’t wanna be a popstar, go and do something else. Go and clean drains.'”
For now, Zayn Malik is resting on his laurels from his first solo release, “Pillowtalk.” Billboard stated that Zayn Malik’s song was a huge success and it was the “most shared and discussed song on Twitter for the week ending January 31.”
In the near future, Zayn Malik might also be releasing a new solo track, according to Teen Vogue, and cite his Twitter video post from February 2 as their evidence.
Zayn Malik will also be releasing his first solo album, Mind of Mine, in late March. According to J-14, Zayn Malik was unaware that the Mind of Mine release date coincided with the day he quit One Direction: March 25. About the coincidence, Zayn Malik stated the following.
“[The Mind of Mine release date is] March 25. It wasn’t planned, but it works that way. But it just seems to coincide with the iTunes launch and everything.”
