Kanye West Backtracks, Admits ‘Waves’ Is Not The Best Album Of All Time

Did someone take over Kanye West’s Twitter? The typically over-egotistical rapper has been very humble lately, and now Kanye has said something so shocking that it’s hard to believe he even said it. Now that Kanye is no longer beefing with Wiz Khalifa, it seems that he’s taken a lesson in at least pretending humility. Kim Kardashian’s husband took to Twitter and announced that his upcoming album, Waves, isn’t really the greatest album of all time, as he previously claimed.

So Kanye went on another Twitter rant, and this time, it was against himself. It seems that Kanye West is trying to backtrack a bit because he previously claimed Waves would be the greatest album of all time. Now, West is saying it will just be one of the greatest. Baby steps, right?

“Out of respect for Q-Tip, Puff, Hov, Lauren, Pharcyde, Mary, Stevie, Michael, Hendrix, James, Pete Rock, Pac, Marvin,” Kanye tweeted, “this new album is ONE of the greatest albums not the greatest just one of…”

Kanye then tweeted, “So many musicians touch my life and made me who I am… I want to make something great to honor my idols…”

There are a few theories as to why Kanye West is eating a huge slice of the humble pie, and VH1 has reported a few of the best ones. The first theory is that Wiz Khalifa talked some sense into Kanye after beefing with each other so hard for the past several days. Kanye tweeted that he and Wiz had a phone conversation and that it was “good.” Hopefully, that means Khalifa isn’t so angry that he’s stopped yelling “F**k Kanye” at his concerts now. Did Kanye’s conversation with Wiz Khalifa help him realize that prematurely calling his own album the greatest isn’t the smartest move?

There is also the theory that Kim Kardashian put a stop to Kanye’s ego trip. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has clearly been heavily involved in Kanye’s new album. Kim even proved it when the tracklist for Waves was released on a piece of notebook paper that was signed and doodled on like a page of a high school yearbook. Kim made her mark on the page by writing, “Kim never left.” This prompted die-hard Kanye West fans to comment on how they hope Kardashian’s involvement in the project doesn’t mean it will be horrible or hugely different from things Kanye has done in the past.

There are a few other theories, such as a Kanye cloning or maybe a cold virus that has affected the ego part of West’s brain. It’s been entertaining trying to figure out why Kanye would call out his own album as being the absolute best album ever and then suddenly decide it’s time to be respectful of those who came before him.

After two name changes to his album, Kanye has dropped several clues about the upcoming record. First titled So Help Me God, the album name was then changed to Swish. In all fairness, Kanye said from the start that Swish wasn’t a permanent name, so his last-minute announcement that the newest offering would be referred to as Waves should not have been a huge surprise.

Of course, Kanye’s announcement that his upcoming album is only one of the best, rather than the previous claim that it is the best, certainly shocked a few people. It’s been almost as shocking as Kim Kardashian’s new truce with Kanye’s ex, Amber Rose.
