‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 9 Spoilers: Raj And Emily Break Up, Sheldon’s Meemaw Hates Amy
The Big Bang Theory season 9 episode 14, titled “The Meemaw Materialization,” airs this Thursday, February 4 on CBS. Apart from viewers finally meeting Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) grandmother, the next episode will also focus on Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Emily’s (Laura Spencer) relationship.
According to the official synopsis for The Big Bang Theory season 9 episode 14, via Spoilers Guide, it was revealed that Raj is having second thoughts about her relationship with Amy. The astrophysicist will meet a new girl at the comic book store, which would make her question everything he knows about love.
Raj will reportedly feel a strong connection with a new girl named Claire, played by actress Alessandra Torresani.
Some The Big Bang Theory fans also started to point out that Laura Spencer’s character was not given much of a storyline. Both Amy (Mayim Bialik) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) were introduced mid-series but they both were given much more screen time compared to Emily.
In the last episode, titled “The Empathy Optimization,” viewers were given a glimpse of what Emily is like. Up until recently, we know almost nothing about her, except from she is Raj’s eccentric dermatologist girlfriend. We saw her fight with Sheldon and Raj, after the former continuously belittle her profession, saying that dermatologists are not real doctors. The couple, however, soon patched things up. Emily also ended up forgiving Sheldon.
Caroline Preece of Den of Geek held that Emily standing up to Sheldon was a definite breath of fresh air. Now that Raj, Amy, Bernadette, Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Stuart (Kevin Sussman) are all used to Sheldon’s quirks, it’s nice to see a character putting him in his place.
“She does stand up for herself when he attacks her profession, and her willingness to go against the grain as a relative newcomer to the group could be what makes her compelling to us as an audience,” she explained.
Speaking to Glamour, Kunal Nayyar shared that fans of Raj and Emily will get to see more of them in the coming The Big Bang Theory season 9 episodes. While his character is definitely happy to finally have a girlfriend, it seems like after their fight, Raj is having second thoughts about Emily.
With the new girl coming in next episode, things will only start to get worse for the couple. Kunal, however, was soon quick to add that Raj and Emily will try to work on their differences.
“The trouble doesn’t go away right away. There may be some other people in the mix that [Raj] has his eye on. But they’re definitely going to try and work through it.”
Meanwhile, Sheldon’s grandmother, played by June Squibb, will also be making her first appearance in The Big Bang Theory season 9 episode 14, titled “The Meemaw Materialization.”
Fans of TBBT have heard countless stories about Sheldon’s meemaw in the past episodes. She helped take care of the young physicist while he was growing up.
Unfortunately, spoilers revealed that she and Amy will not immediately get along. To make matters worse, the elderly woman will reportedly blurt out a secret about Sheldon, to Amy’s surprise.
