Watch Arsenal take on Southampton streaming live online as the Gunners hope to hold on to third place on the Barclays Premier League table, fending off a challenge from the eighth-place side — a Saints squad that hammered Arsenal by an astonishing 4-0 tally when the two teams met at St. Mary’s Stadium in a Boxing Day match, December 26.
Not only that, surging Southhampton have won four of their last six Premier League games and three in a row, including a 1-0 win at Manchester United in their last outing. Arsenal, on the other hand, suffered a dispiriting defeat at home to struggling Chelsea in the Gunners last match, and have won just two of their last six in the league, with two draws to show for their efforts as well.
A loss by Arsenal on Tuesday, combined with a win by their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their game against relegation-battling Norwich, bumps Arsenal into fourth place below Spurs — and potentially only two points ahead of Manchester United who take on ninth-place Stoke at Old Trafford.
Arsenal also lost 35-year-old Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky to a torn thigh muscle in an FA Cup match over the weekend, as Arsenal defeated Burnley to advance a step closer to a third consecutive FA Cup title.
The Gunners also took another loss on transfer deadline day Monday, when they shipped disaffected French defender Mathieu Debuchy back to France on a loan to Bordeaux. The 30-year-old had made it into the lineup only seven times in the 2015-2016 season for Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger, who has favored 20-year-old Spanish import Hector Bellerin at the right back position over Debuchy.

The French defender had previously been linked to a move that would have taken him north to Manchester United, but Wenger opposed allowing Debuchy play for a Barclays Premier League rival, and instead unloaded him on Bordeaux.

Wenger’s sole acquisition in the just-closed January transfer window, 23-year-old Egyptian defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny, could finally see his Premier League debut against Southampton after Arsenal picked him up from Swiss club Basel F.C. on January 13 for £7.4 million, or $10.67 million in United States cash.
Wenger also said on Monday that he would not pursue Chelsea Captain John Terry, who shocked his longtime club by announcing that he planned to be out the door at Stamford Bridge over the summer.
“He is at the end of his career and he has spent his career at Chelsea,” Wenger said, asked if he planned to try persuading Terry to follow former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech across town to the Emirates. “If he wants to play longer, I am sure he will play for Chelsea.”
