Susan Sarandon’s SAG Awards outfit wasn’t any more risqué than the cleavage-baring looks that many other female celebrities wore to the event, but the 69-year-old star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was seemingly the only woman who was shamed for showing off her breasts.
Sofa style critics always pay close attention to cleavage on the SAG Awards red carpet—if an actress dares to attend the event without giving her girls enough support, you can bet social media will be flooded with saggy breast jokes. However, even though Susan Sarandon is approaching 70, droopiness was not an issue for the actress. In fact, as Jezebel points out, most gossip sites seem to agree that Sarandon’s breasts looked absolutely amazing in the black bra that she wore underneath her double-breasted Max Mara power suit.
However, according to Refinery29, internet bullies were quick to criticize Susan Sarandon for daring to bare the tops of her breasts at the SAG Awards. Some critics complained because they didn’t want to see “old cleavage,” and others tried to claim that Susan’s breasts looked saggy, even though they obviously did not. A few viewers also expressed their views that Sarandon’s outfit was inappropriate because she was presenting the in memoriam segment of the SAG Awards. However, others pointed out that she did choose a bra color that was appropriate for mourning.

#sagawards Good of Susan Sarandon to show us her brassiere introducing the In Memoriam segment. It was appropriately black.

Because she was essentially wearing a bra as a shirt, Twitter users were quick to compare Susan Sarandon to “bra-less” wonder Sue Ellen Mischke, Elaine Benes’ nemesis on Seinfeld. After Elaine gifted Sue Ellen with a bra, she irritated her rival by wearing the bra as a shirt and starting a new NYC fashion trend.

While Susan Sarandon’s cleavage has sparked a debate over whether or not her outfit was too revealing, it seems as though SAG viewers didn’t have a problem with the even more daring dress that The Martian star Kate Mara wore to the event—her see-through gown showed off cleavage and a rather large amount of side-boob. According to People, Mara’s Game of Thrones nightgown is a Valentino creation. Susan’s tailored suit is definitely conservative in comparison.
Susan Sarandon attended the awards ceremony with her daughter, Eva Amurri, and her son, Jack Robbins. She was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, but she didn’t get to take home one of those naked blue men. However, Susan’s cleavage won plenty of praise at the SAG Awards. According to the Daily Mail, Kate Winslet admired the actress’ ample bosom so much that she couldn’t resist copping a feel.
Susan Sarandon’s son even talked about her incredible body at the SAG Awards.
“Looks good, right?” 26-year-old Jack Robbins asked during a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. He was asked if his friends have ever talked about how amazing his mom looks, and he revealed that many such conversations have taken place.
“All the time, it’s all we talk about, how hot my mom is,” Jack joked. “Yes, love it.”
At least Susan Sarandon was wearing a bra underneath her SAG Awards outfit. According to the Sun, Orange is the New Black star Vicky Jeudy suffered an embarrassing nip slip on the SAG red carpet when she posed for a photo with Leonardo DiCaprio. The bra-less actress was rocking a white and black jumpsuit with a deep V-neck, and it seems as though she wasn’t wearing enough double-sided tape to hold the top in place. At least Leo never looked down while he was posing with Vicky.
What do you think of the internet’s reaction to Susan Sarandon’s cleavage? Is it much ado about nothing, or was her look inappropriate for the SAG Awards?
