LOST’s Dominic Monaghan Calls For “Swamp People” Shut Down: Cites Animal Cruelty, Steve Irwin

Dominic Monaghan, better known as Charlie Pace from LOST and Merry from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is calling for the shut-down of the popular documentary show Swamp People due to the blatant animal cruelty exhibited on the show.

Monaghan sounded-off his distaste for the History Channel show via Twitter, writing, “If my hero Steve Irwin was around, those shows about killing alligators wouldn’t be on TV. I’m gonna stop them.” He derides the show as nothing more than “shock TV” that glorifies the senseless killing of alligators, and has apparently made it a personal crusade to get the show shut down completely, reports TMZ.

Monaghan goes on a Twitter tirade, calling Swamp People “death entertainment,” and adding that the show “continues to demonize reptiles as monsters and animals that are okay to torture and kill.” He later adds that, “If alligator populations need to be controlled, I understand. But the act should not be glorified on TV. Disgusting.”

Of course, Monaghan finds no fault in the people whatsoever. His axe-to-grind is with the network itself – the glorification and documentation on the part of the History Channel is the true nemesis. “I blame the network, not the people,” he said.

Monaghan has been known lately for his outspoken opinions regarding, well, whatever seems to be on his mind. He made the media a few months ago when he accused his LOST co-star Matthew Fox of beating women on his Twitter. A cursory browse through his Twitter page shows an extremely active celebrity, at least in terms of the social media circuit, and one that regularly interacts with his various followers.

Do you agree with Dominic Monaghan? Should Swamp People be shut down?
