Oprah Winfrey Gains $12 Million & Sheds 26 Lbs With Weight Watchers As She Turns 62: ‘Eat Bread, Lose Weight’

Happy birthday, Oprah Winfrey! Just after earning a new round of attention for her weight loss via Weight Watchers, sending the stock soaring with a single tweet about bread, Oprah is back in the news as she celebrates her 62nd birthday on January 29.

From her weight loss (and gain) roller coaster to memorable quotes and car giveaways, Winfrey has succeeded in becoming one of the world’s most legendary women, pointed out E! News.

But it’s that ability to appeal to the public at the right time in the right way with the right words that has given Oprah a gift of gab that’s now causing her to strike gold. And as evidence, consider how Winfrey reaped $12 million in about an hour by tweeting about bread, according to Market Watch.

Oprah, who is the largest individual stakeholder in Weight Watchers International Inc., sent out a tweet that included a video announcing she had shed 26 pounds and still enjoyed bread on a daily basis. The stock soared more than 16 percent in the following hour.

That rally follows Winfrey’s decision to shell out $43 million to become the biggest single shareholder in Weight Watchers. Since that October investment, Weight Watchers has watched its shares rocket up almost 100 percent.

While money matters, Oprah also emphasized that she truly believes that Weight Watchers has the answer to her weight loss war during a recent Q&A with members, reported People.

Winfrey prefers not to look at the Weight Watchers plan as a diet but as a lifestyle, and Oprah does not have a set goal in mind.

“I’ll know what it is when I get there,” predicted Oprah of refusing to set a goal weight.

As for why she feels that it is a lifestyle rather than diet, Winfrey revealed that in the past, she’s followed a diet plan and then fallen off the bandwagon. But she believes this time is different.

“Every other time I’ve ever gone on a diet, I’ve gone on a diet and then gone off the diet. The difference is I’ve made the shift and this is the way I’m going to live for the rest of my life.”

Part of that shift is discovering how to limit amounts, and that includes one of her favorite foods: potatoes.

“I have been controlled by potatoes for 40 years,” confessed Oprah. “Any kind of fried potato, baked potato, scalloped potato – oh my god.”

So recently Winfrey viewed it as a major victory to eat only 10 potato chips.

“Of all the accomplishments that made in the world, all the red carpets, and the awards and those things that I’ve done. The fact that I could close the bag and not take another chip – it’s major for me,” proclaimed Oprah.

Winfrey also wants to make it clear that she feels the agony of struggling to get into clothes that used to fit, and the misery of gaining weight after struggling to lose it. Oprah sent a message to those who claimed that she does not really understand the battle of the bulge.

“None of the people who were upset are the people who have actually felt and experienced what it felt like to be burdened by the weight.None of those people had stood in their closets with three different sizes to try on on the floor, where the waistline didn’t fit and the arms didn’t fit, and the hips didn’t fit, and you can’t get it zipped, and felt that shame and that humiliation of ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m in this position again.'”

Now, however, Oprah feels that she has mastered the art of slimming down permanently. As evidence of her new confidence, Winfrey is now ready to take a yoga class.

“I feel like I can go to class with out falling over and embarrassing myself, so I’m going to do that,” she shared.

As for whether Oprah will indulge in birthday cake, she revealed that she prefers booze to bakery goods. Recently Winfrey invited a big group of friends and family to celebrate the holidays and even brought in a pastry chef to make baked goods such as Cronuts and croissants. Oprah’s BFF Gayle King, who also is on Weight Watchers, couldn’t resist. Oprah, however, wanted to save her points for alcohol.

“Gayle was there, and she was like, ‘I’m having a Cronut,’ and I was like, ‘It’s not worth the points,'” shared Winfrey. “And she was like, ‘I’m having the Cronut, and then I have 7 points left for the whole day.’ I said I’d rather have a margarita!”
