Fans can watch the Zambia vs. Guinea football match live online and see which team can move forward to the CHAN 16 semifinals.
The two will be meeting on Sunday in Kigali for the quarterfinals of the 2016 African Nations Championship. Start time is 6 p.m. local time.
For Guinea, the trip to the CHAN 16 quarterfinals is a bit of a surprise. They faced the favorite Nigeria in the final match of the group round, needing a win to advance. Though many expected Nigeria to not only win the group stabe but make a run, Guinea pulled through with a 1-0 upset.
It’s been quite a run for Guinea, who is playing in the African Nations Championship for the first time ever. The historic moment was not lost on head coach Mohamed Kanfory Bangoura.
“I’m very satisfied with the performance of the team. This is our first time at the tournament and we are in the quarter finals,” he said after the shutout win over Nigeria (via CAF Online). “We had a plan tactically and technically although there are some mistakes that we will have to work on ahead of the next game. It is a great joy and satisfaction, and we have to celebrate the victory. It was a difficult match but we are proud of the result.”
As big as the win was for Guinea, the loss may have been even more significant for Nigeria. The team was expected to be a powerhouse under coach Sunday Oliseh, with many predicting a deep run in the CHAN 16 tournament. Instead, they failed to advance out of the group play.

Oliseh addressed the loss after the tournament.
“Personally, I’m very proud of the boys, they have given a good image of themselves in as much as that we did not go through. Africans will look at Nigeria in a brighter light. Is not a question of the tactics we chose for the game, we told the players to play well. We came out to win with a plan to stay compact and when we have the ball to play. Today, when we had the ball we didn’t play.
“The players are humans and at some point they break, and that is what happened. All I can say is that my players are humans and there is a limit that they can hold. For some morals reasons, they couldn’t find it.”
There is little time to analyze Nigeria’s exit, as the tournament is moving on. Fans who watch the Zambia vs. Guinea football match online will instead see two programs looking to establish themselves as major players on the continent.
Like Guinea, Zambia is not happy simply with advancing past the group stage. Head coach George Lwandamina said the team’s win over Uganda that propelled them through to the quarterfinals is just the start.
He made the following statement (via CAF Online).
“We are in a good situation. Our plan was to go past the group stage, and the current situation has allowed that. It is good for the players and the team. It was a tough game. Uganda came on us but we brought them to our game level and reduced them to play our game. I’m sure we have learnt one or two things from the game. We have achieved objective.”
