Dallas Cowboys Rumors: NFL Mock Draft Links Cowboys To Joey Bosa

Dallas Cowboys rumors about the 2016 NFL Draft are turning heads. These new Cowboys rumors come from an NFL mock draft conducted by USA Today. The report from USA Today has Joey Bosa slipping to the fourth pick, allowing the Cowboys to draft him in the first round. The allure for the Cowboys is very simple, as Bosa could immediately replace Greg Hardy on the defensive line. A big question is whether the best defensive end in the NFL Draft will still be available when the Cowboys make that pick.

Previous NFL mock drafts have had Joey Bosa going either first overall to the Tennessee Titans, or second to the Cleveland Browns. The Ohio State product would be a nice addition to any team, but the USA Today report states the Titans and Browns have more pressing needs. In this mock draft, the Titans go with Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil as the No. 1 overall pick. They then have the Browns going with California quarterback Jared Goff in the No. 2 spot. Then, the San Diego Chargers get linked to Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey with the third pick.

These Dallas Cowboys rumors could actually be a best case scenario for the franchise, as adding a player like Joey Bosa could improve the defense right away. The team has a huge “need” when it comes to having a formidable front four under the defense of Rod Marinelli. Bosa could be the perfect complement to DeMarcus Lawrence on the line and provide the Cowboys with an easy way out of bringing back Greg Hardy. Addressing the defensive line in the first round would allow the team to focus on several other needs later in the draft.

As a point of reference, the rest of the top 10 picks in this latest mock draft are also interesting. The report has UCLA linebacker Myles Jack going to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell to the Baltimore Ravens, Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers, Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott to the Miami Dolphins, Notre Dame tackle Ronnie Staley to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves to the New York Giants. That’s the highest that Elliott has appeared in any of the 2016 NFL mock drafts.

During the 2014 college football season, Joey Bosa notched 13.5 sacks and 21 tackles for a loss. He also had a fumble return for a touchdown. Bosa followed that up with five sacks and 16 tackles for loss during 2015. The 6-6, 275 pound defensive end is a force on the line that requires a double team from offensive lines. Any Dallas Cowboys rumors linking him to the team should excite fans, as he is the type of player who could have an immediate impact in the NFL. The only question is whether he will still be on the board when the Cowboys are on the clock.

Previous mock drafts from NFL.com have Bosa going to the Tennessee Titans, but the site also has started to shift where it thinks he will play next season. Previously, North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz was linked to the Cowboys, but statements from owner Jerry Jones have helped shake things up. Jones has stated the Cowboys don’t “have” to draft a quarterback, giving more stamina to rumors about either Robert Griffin III or Johnny Manziel backing up Tony Romo next year.

The college football analysts at CBS Sports still feel there is no way Joey Bosa slips to the fourth pick. In a new report, the site has the Cowboys going with UCLA outside linebacker Myles Jack as the fourth selection. He could provide an improvement from the outside, but it would still require the Cowboys to add a defensive lineman later in the draft. With the 2016 NFL Draft still months away, these won’t be the last Dallas Cowboys rumors or mock draft predictions for fans to devour.
