Georges St-Pierre: MMA Fighter Along With Manager Denies Quebec Report That ‘GSP’ Is Returning To Action

In MMA today, the sport’s biggest fighters are the likes of Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, Paige VanZant, and Sage Northcutt. They are on the forefront blurring the lines between fighter and celebrity. Before them however, there were the likes of Anderson Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, and Chuck Liddel, fighters who innovated and popularize MMA into a mainstream sport. And before them, there were the likes of Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie, fighters who dominated because they utilized technicality in MMA, back in the days when it was borderline unsanctioned.

In short, each era of MMA has its most-memorable fighters. However, there is only one fighter most MMA fans say is timeless because they say he is the best of all time. That fighter is Georges St-Pierre. At this moment, “Rush” is on hiatus from combative MMA. Still, many MMA fans keep notice, staying up-to-date on anything about when he will return. Just recently, they thought their hopes and dreams came true as a news report claimed such. Unfortunately for them, that is not the case as St-Pierre, along with his manager, have denied the report.

The rumors of Georges St-Pierre returning to MMA combat started when FM93 Québec posted on their Twitter that he was doing so. According to the tweet, St-Pierre was supposedly about to make an announcement that he’ll be returning to action.

Needless to say but many Georges St-Pierre fans were hyped. That was until St-Pierre responded to The Canadian Press on the rumors. According to Toronto Sun, when asked if the announcement was true, St-Pierre simply sent a reply consisting of one word: “Non” (French for “No”). St-Pierre than followed up with a more thorough statement.

“I can tell you with certainty that their their sources are not reliable.”

And if Georges St-Pierre wasn’t a reliable enough source to hear if he was returning to active MMA combat or not, his manager, Rodolphe Beaulieu, also denied the Canadian report when he was contacted by MMA Fighting.

“[There are] still a lot of things that need to happen before he decides if he comes back or not.”

During his time, Georges St-Pierre was dominating in MMA. Since his debut back in 2002, St-Pierre has built a 25-2-0 record with 22 of those fights happening in UFC. Some of his victories were against big names in MMA including B.J. Penn, Thiago Alves, Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, and Johny Hendricks. After St-Pierre won his last fight back in 2013 against Hendricks (video of fight above), he needed to take time away from the sport.

It should be noted that Georges St-Pierre is technically working towards a potential return to MMA action. At this moment, he is training, coming back from a knee injury he suffered during his hiatus. St-Pierre is even following the advice of renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach just to see if he can actually return. Roach is putting St-Pierre through mock camp training to test this.

Despite all the chatter pertaining to Georges St-Pierre’s possible return, nothing has been set in stone whatsoever. If “Rush” does return, he might have a lot to deal with including Conor McGregor who has expressed desire not to just dominate the lightweight division, but potentially the welterweight division too.
