Wedding Dress Designer Vera Wang Divorces Husband Of 23 Years
Famous wedding dress designer Vera Wang is divorcing her husband of 23 years, according to reports.
Mario Grauso, president of Ms. Wang’s company, released a statement saying, “Vera Wang and Arthur Becker have mutually and amicably agreed to separate. They remain devoted parents to their two daughters.” The couple’s separation comes just two weeks shy of their 23rd wedding anniversary. Wang was 39-years-old when she married Arthur Becker, a computer exec who has slowly become more involved with his former wife’s brand over the years, reports the Daily Mail.
Though her name is synonymous with romance and love, Vera Wang admitted that her marriage came as a surprise. “I was the girl who nobody thought would ever get married,” she recalled in 2006. “I was going to be a fashion nun the rest of my life. There are generations of them, those fashion nuns, living, eating, breathing clothes. But Ralph said, ‘Get yourself a husband and a family.’ Anna said, ‘You have got to get a family going here. You’ve been single for three decades now.’ So I married my husband. There are days I’m not happy I did it, but there are days I’m thrilled—I mean, he has always understood my nature, which is that it’s always about product.”
Together, the couple have two daughters, Cecilia and Josephine, reports the Huffington Post.
The couple married an interfaith ceremony at the Hotel Pierre in 1989. After struggling to find her own unique dress for the nuptials, Wang ultimately decided to hire a designer to craft a dress for a $10,000 price tag. Wang has designed wedding dresses for dozens of famous figures, including Chelsea Clinton, Ivanka Trump, Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Garner, Sharon Stone, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kate Hudson, and most recently, Kim Kardashian.
