Ian Somerhalder And Nina Dobrev To Reunite On ‘The Vampire Diaries’? Creator Julie Plec Hopes So

Nina Dobrev might have a slight chance of reuniting with her former flame and co-star Ian Somerhalder for future seasons of The Vampire Diaries.

Dobrev, who played the protagonist Elena Gilbert, quit the show after Season 6. But with the star power of Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Candice King, the show continued on, only dipping slightly in the ratings.

But while the show is still successful without Dobrev’s character no longer in the picture, fans of the show have been begging for a reunion between Elena and Damon Salvatore (Somerhalder). And as it turns out, fans aren’t the only ones wanting a Dobrev comeback.

Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec recently sat down for an interview with Variety and explained she would totally be on board with the idea.

“Yes, I miss her deeply,” Plec admitted, “and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, ‘Hey, can I come back and play?”

Plec’s comments quickly went viral, and rumors began to emerge about the possible reunion. However, before fans get their hopes up too much, Plec already stated last year that Dobrev is done with the show and is looking forward to her future in the film industry. Dobrev has booked a number of film roles recently and is even rumored to be attached to the Baywatch movie starring Zac Efron.

Now, according to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Dobrev won’t be returning to the set anytime soon. The report claims that Nina is still upset about her ex Ian Somerhalder’s marriage to Twilight star Nikki Reed and blames the show for introducing her to her ex in the first place. The new report goes on to claim that Dobrev even regrets her six seasons on the show.

A friend of Dobrev’s spoke with Celeb Dirty Laundry about her friend’s relationship with Ian and rejoining the show.

“Nina has tried to stay strong watching Ian and Nikki flaunt their relationship in her face, then witnessed them rush to the altar,” the friend stated. “And now she’s at the point of regretting her time on The Vampire Diaries completely. Nina knows that if she had never done the show, she wouldn’t have fallen in love with Ian in the first place.”

The friend, who wasn’t named, added, “If the producers asked her to come back to the show, Nina would laugh at them.”

However, despite other claims that Nikki Reed is a jealous mess about a possible reunion between her husband Ian Somerhalder and his ex Dobrev, Gossip Cop says the claims are absurd. Gossip Cop also claims that the rumors about Reed having a meltdown over Dobrev’s rumored return to The Vampire Diaries are not true either.

According to Gossip Cop, Reed isn’t worried whatsoever about her relationship with Somerhalder, nor is she concerned that fans of the show want the fictional characters of Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore back together.

With that said, Dobrev ran into her ex Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed during the Golden Globes. The conversation the trio had is unknown, but during Somerhalder’s red carpet walk with Reed, the couple was all smiles. So despite all the gossip, it seems safe for fans to assume that all is good between the exes.

After all, Nina has been showing off her new man, Bridge of Spies star Austin Stowell, on Instagram, Twitter, and the red carpet.
