Reese Witherspoon, a voting member of the Academy, is another in a long line of those who are concerned about the lack of diversity at the Oscars. This is the second year in a row that the four major categories have featured all white nominees. Entertainment Weekly reports that Reese Witherspoon took to Facebook to post her feelings on the matter. It appears that Witherspoon has made it clear that the actors and directors that have not been nominated deserve recognition for their work and that there needs to be more diversity in the voting membership.
Reese Witherspoon was referring to an article published by TIME that reveals the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations, not only in terms of skin color, but also age and gender. They mention the fact that the Academy of Motion Pictures is not diverse in its membership, quoting a study conducted by the Los Angeles Times in 2012 that revealed the membership at the time was 94 percent male and 77 percent white.
Previously, Entertainment Weekly reported that Reese Witherspoon talked about the issue of double standards between men and women in Hollywood when speaking at Glamour‘s Women of the Year event last November. She made a point that cultural crisis exists in every industry, referring at the time to the underrepresentation of women.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we are in a cultural crisis in every field, in every industry. Women are underrepresented and underpaid in leadership positions. No wonder we don’t have the healthcare we deserve or paid family leave or public access to early childhood education. And that really worries me. How can we expect legislation with our rights and needs being preserved if we don’t have equal representation?”
Reese Witherspoon has seen these issues going on for a very long time in Hollywood. After all, despite her appearance, she is pushing 40. But looking at her youthful appearance, it would be very difficult to tell. Daily Mail reports that Witherspoon recently posted a throwback photo to when she was 15 years old, and other than a change in hair color, she really doesn’t look all that different.
Reese Witherspoon even looks more like a sister than a mother to her 16-year-old daughter, Ava. And Ava clearly looks like her mother.
How does Reese Witherspoon stay so fit and young-looking? It has to do, at least in part, with the fact that she works out regularly with Simone De La Rue at Body by Simone. Simone works with many stars aside from Witherspoon, such as Sandra Bullock and Julianne Hough, and Us Weekly senior editor Alison Baker decided to try out Body by Simone’s 8-Week Total Body Makeover to see how it worked. She found it was a complete success.
“Full disclosure: Holiday eating — and cocktails — is a bit of a setback. Still, I’m confident going into my final measurements. And the results: I have shrunk 8.5 inches, including my waist, biceps and thighs. I especially won’t miss those 2 inches I lost from my waist!”
That’s pretty impressive! Reese Witherspoon is in good hands with Simone, but she also has a natural and youthful beauty all her own. And she has a great spirit and personality to go with it!
