‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’: A Violent Darth Vader, A ‘Scene Stealing’ Droid, And Death Troopers [Spoilers]

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie in the works, this will be the first movie in the Lucasfilm anthology that tells the tale of the acquisition of the Death Star plans. It’s a film that fills in the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. There’s also talks of a new kind of trooper, a more involved role for Darth Vader, and a “scene stealing” droid.

If you don’t want to be spoiled, continue no further!

It seems that Darth Vader will have a large role in the film with rumors of James Earl voicing the character. According to Making Star Wars, Vader will be having some action sequences with a few costumes/suits crafted up for the movie. The sequences aren’t known at this time, but there are pitches being made on the method to Vader’s madness when he takes out “rebellion scum.”

This is not uncommon in Hollywood as there’s even hand props like that of Rick’s gun from The Walking Dead for the purpose of shooting and another for pistol whipping. So it could be by the same ilk that the Rogue One movie armor pieces for Vader could have different purposes like for stunts.

This could mean with additional stunt suits, action is likely to happen for the middle-aged Anakin in the Star Wars anthology solo movie. Also, Vader is said to be portrayed quite violently considering the visuals under which he’s portrayed, according to Making Star Wars.

“The action sequences filmed are unknown, but there was work pitching the different ways Darth Vader could kill rebels on a battlefield with the Force and his lightsaber. The storyboard ‘pitches’ showing decapitated rebels, people being dismembered by Vader throwing his sword, levitating bodies to make human shields and so on. The art was more violent than what we’ve seen Darth Vader do on screen before.”

After all, he was in hot pursuit of the plans that Princess Leia had hidden in R2-D2. It looked like in Star Wars: A New Hope he was pretty fired up, so he could have been pretty “active” prior to that point in the 1977 movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is also said to be having a new type of stormtrooper called Death Troopers, according to Latino-Review. If anyone recalls actor Donnie Yen, he had posted some time ago a row of props on a shelf, one of them with an all-black ensemble and style, according to a picture posted at Entertainment Weekly in August of last year.

If you Google Death Troopers though, they are defined with zombie-like characteristics, according to Wikipedia, having been infected with some kind of virus. Although, this could be a completely different type of classification of “trooper” altogether. The only recent black colored trooper-like ensemble is that of the TIE Fighter pilot.

The next piece of juicy Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie info comes that of a droid character. These lovable, sentient beings that have their own personality have always been iconic of the Lucasfilm franchise. Now comes what appears to be described as a two-legged, dark grey, or black-colored droid. It’s been said that Alan Tudyk is to play a motion capture character, per Movie Web, in the Rogue One movie, which would be quite the “scene stealer” according to Latino-Review.

Since Tudyk has had experience working with motion capture in I, Robot, which starred Will Smith, could one put two and two together to visualize his motions as his next robotic venture? Could he be the “scene stealing” droid? Tudyk has been known to be rather comedic.

The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie is scheduled for release on December 16 and is directed by Gareth Edwards.
