Police are still investigating the tragic incident that left Usher’s former stepson in critical condition, and authorities have made a new discovery – the man operating the Jet Ski that wounded Usher’s stepson was a family friend.
The original story goes that R&B singer Usher Raymond’s former stepson Kyle Glover was reportedly injured in a Jet Ski accident, leaving him in critical condition and ultimately declared brain dead. The incident report, via MTV News from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, identifies Jeffrey S. Hubbard as the vehicle’s operator. The report goes on to detail that Hubbard was operating the Jet Ski in Atlanta’s Lake Lanier when he ran over two pre-teens being pulled in an inner tube by a boat late in the afternoon. Both injured children were flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. The incident report doesn’t name any names, but reports say that 11-year-old Kyle Glover was one, and was later declared brain dead due to his injuries. The second victim reportedly got cut on the head and suffered a broken arm.
“One minute the jet ski was running around, the next he ran over the top of them. It happened that quickly,” Sgt. Mike Burgamy with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told NY Daily. “It appears the watercraft did strike both juveniles, with the male taking the brunt of the force.”
“The entire incident in question is under investigation, which includes Mr. Hubbard. We are not currently speculating on what charges might be filed,” Melissa Cummings of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told E!. Hubbard is confirmed as the operator of the Jet Ski, but authorities say that no alcohol was involved.
As reported, Hubbard wasn’t just a stranger at the lake that day, but a friend of the family and familiar to Glover. Tameka Foster, Glover’s mom, spoke about her son after the accident, saying simply, “He’s bad.” She also got on her Facebook page today to update: “Kyle, You are strong.. You’ll be saved I know it. I love you my baby. I need all #Prayers for my son! thanks you everybody!”
Usher married Foster in 2007, but divorced in 2009. The two are currently going through a custody battle. They are both reportedly at the hospital at this time.
