Archie Meets Glee In Comic Book Crossover

The kids from Riverdale are breaking all types of boundaries this year. Archie introduced its first gay character (and had its first gay wedding) recently and now the comic is blurring the line between television and comic books. “Archie Meets Glee,” a new series in the long running comic, will introduce the kids of Riverdale to the kids from William McKinley High School.

The Associated Press reports that Finn Hudson, Kurt Hummel and Rachel Berry will meet Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica later this year or early in 2013. The “Archie Meets Glee” storyline will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who writes for the Fox show.

Jon Goldwater, the co-chief executive officer, said that the “Archie Meets Glee” idea spawned from his friendship with Roberto, who is a huge Archie fan.

Goldwater said:

“I’ve become friendly with Roberto — he’s just a genius writer… He and I were shooting the breeze…. It turns out he’s been a fan of Archie for years. His most recent Halloween costume? He was dressed as Archie!”

Aguirre-Sacasa said:

“I’ve been wanting to write something for Archie Comics forever and my favorite Archie stories have always been those weird crossovers like ‘Archie meets the Punisher’ and ‘Archie meets KISS… I thought, ‘Archie meets Glee’ would be a great crossover since they’re both set in high schools, they’re both optimistic, they both involve singing.”

The storyline for the new Archie Comics isn’t known yet but Goldwater said that “Archie Meets Glee” will be a four-issue story arc.
